Get a tank with no other fish in (they are very Territorial) make something like a cave (an upside-down flower pot will do as long as it has a hole cut into the side, and is thoroughly washed. Pick a pair with the finest male, and the red-est bellied female. The pair should be kept at about 77 to 80°F. Feed them on bloodworms, dried tubifex or other live foods. There must be plant thickets so the fish feel secure. Good luck, and don't worry if it goes wrong for the first time, this is usual for inexperienced pairs. If you get young, after a while of raising them you can get your reward, often they will sell for a bit.

Kribs breed very easily and are fun to raise. Further more, you can probably actually get somet hing for the young unlike many other easy to raise fish like convict cichlids.

Kribs breed much like convicts and will want a smooth flat place to lay eggs. If they have a flat rock, they will go for that and if not they may clear a space on the bottom of the tank by removing all of the gravel. They can also spawn in a cave such as a flower pot laying on it's side.

As others said, they get quite territorial when they breed, so a separate tank or a large tank so the other fish can stay away from them is a must.

Here's a site with some good info on breeding them and raising the fry.

Hope that helps

You can tell they are pairing off when the male and female start to defend a territory and chase other fish out of it. From time to time they may engage in jaw-locking displays with each other.

Kribs are generally secretive and prefer laying eggs in a halved flower pot or a cave you can create by stacking some rocks together. If they like what you give them they will thoroughly clean the surface with their mouth before laying eggs on it.

Depending on the size of then tank and what else you have in there you may have to remove the other fish for their own safety once the eggs are layed.

Good luck.

my pair of kribs are looking after there babys right now, water parameters dont seem to matter too much as long as its well filtered and clean, the female when shes ready will shimmy and dance around the male, they will dig a hole in the sand or gravel, then lay the eggs, when they hatch the parents will move them to a cave IE flower pot, and the female will stay with them and even chase off the male the male will guard around the cave, the young will go out looking for food with mum or dad, they seem fine with crushed flake food

it rather is available, yet some issues right here. How old are those fish many times? it rather is available they may be previous their breeding time? How is your tank water chemistry? Are you conserving it at African Rift Lake situations? What length tank are they in? Are there the different tank pals or have they have been given the tank to themselves? thank you Soopy! the only different element i'm able to think of of, possibly tank too small and that they are in a position to't come across a snug area of interest to get it on...yet that probable might in basic terms come into play if there are different tank pals in. fairly uncertain at this factor. Will examine in later.
