Okay, I have four new platies and on of them is acting a little strange. Its zooming around the tank and when its not is moving rapidly from side to side. Its eating fine and not bothering the other fish (doesn't seem to be aggressive). It is a little larger than the others so I suspect it is older. The best way to describe it is hyperactive as. It has no spots or other signs of disease and its poo it fine. I suppose if it was human you might think it was having a fit!

The tank is 50 liters and there is plenty of plants and places for them to hide. Ammonia level is 0.25 (slight elevation due to new fish).

PLEASE has anyone see this before? All help is appreciated.

Is it true that if your betta fish doesnt eat its food and it just sits in the water then it will posion the water? Someone told me that and I wasnt sure if it was true. Also, my betta fish has been alive for almost 2 years now. My cousins had betta fish and both of the fish died within 3 months. What is the normal life span of a betta fish? Oh, and one more thing. My dad said that this normal but I just wanted to check. When I cleaned my betta fish's water, it was red. (He's red) Is that normal? Thanks for all of your help.

I have a couple mollies and a group of tiger barbs?? Lately one of my Tiger barbs have been nipping a molly and the molly started swimming funny, moving its fins a bit faster, without moving too far!! I noticed that the molly is missing a piece of its side and tail fin, and I was just wondering if their tails will heal, or grow back at all??

I have two goldfish, I have had them for about 4 years, and I was wondering if it would be safe to put a black light over the tank. I have always used a white florecent light, and I was wanting to know change things up a bit. Is this OK?

I just bought my daughter a new goldfish for her tank. A 10 gallon with 2 small goldfish and a snail. Water tested fine. Now the new fish is very swollen in the belly so much that the scales on her body are sticking out. The fish lays at the bottom of the tank or when it trys to swim it flips upside down. I fed them some small bloodworms the other day. But I dont think that could have caused this. Is there anything I could give the fish to help? And what might have caused this?

My boyfriend recently got this big fish tank from a friend, he didnt scrub it before using it though he only rinsed it out with water, the first event that happened was he bought lots of feeder fish for his turtles and desided to keep them in there. The next day they all died. He even used water softner stuff too. Okay so then yesterday he bought three fish not sure what kind but they are small and cute. He wanted to keep them as pets. Well last night they died too. Is it the PH level of the water??

I have a 10 gallon tank with 1 betta, 3 cory cats, and 5 neon tetras. When I get up I feed my betta his freeze-dried blood worms and then my neon tetras some crushed flakes. At night I feed my cory cats some tablets that sink to the bottom, but whenever I finish putting in the flakes the water seems to get cloudy and its been like that for about 5 hours now. I figured my filter would help clean it, but it hasn't. I noticed that yesterday to so I replaced about 25% of the water and renewed my filter cartridge and the water was fine. Can someone help me? Is it the food because I know I shouldn't have to change my water every day, but only once a week. HELP ME, PLEASE! Thanks to those who answer.

Like many people, I am trying to go green and switch to florescent lights. However, I know that some people have neurological reactions to these lights, such as headaches or even seizures.
I wonder if fish can be affected badly too.
Before I switch to the more eco-friendly lights for my goldfish, I wonder if anyone knows if any studies have been done on the effects that florescent lights have on aquatic animals.
If anyone here knows of any websites on such a study that would be most appreciated.

I have two goldfish. One orange, one gray. Every time I feed them, the orange one chases the gray one away from the food. What's the deal? I feed them a couple times a day, the exact amount the food recommends. The tank is fine, 10 gal with a filter and all that jazz. So what's up? Is the orange one just a meanie? What can I do to fix this?

I cut out a 3 foot long tube and punctured holes with a hot pin with 1 inch distance on the top side. I sealed one end and hooked in my air pump at the other and anchored the whole thing in my tank from one end to the other with vacume holders.

I find that bubbles don't come out from all the holes properly. If anyone has some good tips making a perfect buble wall airation tube, please post.

The reason I'm doing this is because, I can't get the proper size readymade piece for this in my area.

So heres what I want, if they dont already have a number, I need a suggestion for how many.

Here we go:
1 Betta
6-8 Swordtails
Some sort of tetra(besides neon or cardinal)

And if possible, maybe some cherry shrimp?? I know that people often have problems with them and bettas, but I have an extra ten gallon tank that they could go into if I am having issues.

My ph is about 8.2
The tank is a 40 gallon corner tank
