I think that depends on the fish, how you keep them, and what you expect of them.
My pleco and Asian catfish are fairly boring to watch during the day, but they're nocturnal fish - they are only "doing things" at night, or if I turn off the lights on their tank. Then they become some of the most graceful swimmers you'd ever want to see!
Lots of people say their bettas just sit at the bottom of their bowls, but I keep mine in a 2.5 or 5 gallon tank with a filter, heater (these are tropical fish that need water temperatures of 76-85o), and decorations, and mine are always on the move.
Some fish, like oscars and puffers are very interactive with their owners, while corydoras and loaches are more interactive with each other. Cichlids are great to watch when they're taking care of their fry, "herding" them around the tank.
Others like livebearers are nice just for their colors.
I keep all types, because I just like watching them.

Only when they don't come with a tangy lemon caper sauce. But really, if you get boring fish, they will be boring. If you get active fish like Loaches and give them proper care, they will be very comical and swim around and chase each other and swim around and will eventually learn when it is feeding time. Many Cichlids can be trained to eat out of their owner's hand. Fish are only boring for boring people. (Fish think we are really boring too).

no, not at all, some are more interseting but non are boring as long as its not a huge tank with nothing in it, hell people are boring if they have nothing to interact with , a bare tank is like waiting at the DMV to me, adding decorations and different fish is liking going to a party, there is something to do.

They're meant to be beautiful, not exciting. Fish are kept because they can show very interesting life habits.

they were entertaining for awhile but then i had to get cats because a fish is nothing more than decoration that you have to feed for the most part. though its great to start showing responsibilty to a toddler

Kind of because all they do is take up money, take up space, take up time, and take up food. They don't really do anything, but move around in their little glass bowl and go GULP, GULP, GULP all day long!!! I kind of find it annoying, don't you??
Have a great day!!!! :o)

Well, they have a tank and they swim.
To be fair, they don't have many resources available.
