Like many people, I am trying to go green and switch to florescent lights. However, I know that some people have neurological reactions to these lights, such as headaches or even seizures.
I wonder if fish can be affected badly too.
Before I switch to the more eco-friendly lights for my goldfish, I wonder if anyone knows if any studies have been done on the effects that florescent lights have on aquatic animals.
If anyone here knows of any websites on such a study that would be most appreciated.

I have just looked through a few restricted sites that post published research papers fromGovernment, Colleges, Universities and other respectable sources and can find no study that has been done concerning the potential effects of florescent lighting on fish.

I use almost nothing else on my tanks other than florescent lights and had never seen nor even heard of such an occurance.

I would say make the swap and don't expect any problems at all.

Flourescent lighting has been the favoured lighting for fish for a very long time, mainly due to their low heat (and so avoid overheating the water). They are perfectly safe. I know several people who use plain old flourescent lighting instead of the overpriced aquarium bulbs without issues.

I am not sure of all the details...I figured you are talking about fish tank lights...verses human use lights? Our lights don't usually bother fish because we aren't suppose to put them next to their tanks. As for fish bulb lights, most fish shops have them for the tanks. Some are just plain fish use and others are geared for fish and plants (plants need special light spectrum).

properly, i do no longer know of any web pages or analyze, yet i know that an outstanding form of fish keepers use fluorescent lighting fixtures (in line with threat even maximum) and there has been no outcry against them.

i don't know about studies -- but most larger aquariums come with fluorescent lighting and it is usually preferred because the color spectrum can be altered to improve plant growth.

I'm not sure about any studies, but my Beta freaked out when I put him in front of a blacklight.
