I recently got a 10 gallon aquarium, and decided i wanted to keep Bettas in it. I already have a male betta in a different tank, but i only bought two female bettas for the new tank. Since they've been home, they keep nipping at each other. I heard that this was normal for them during the first few days of being together, but i also heard that they need to be either single or in groups of three or more. I read a different question, and someone said that you could put a male in with two females. Any advice from anyone else who's kept female Bettas together?

Yesteday I took out almost all the water and vacuumed gravel very well. Then I added better gravel that is good for plants and a bunch of new plants. I had four black skirted tetras and four silver dollars...two significantly bigger than the others. A few minutes after returning fish to replanted tank, I found one of my big silver dollars on the floor (covered with cat hair and dirt :(...I put him back in tank and he seemed fine at first. However by morning I found one smaller silver dollar dead and the larger one suffering. I have since added salt. He is still alive, 24 hours later but is not swimming and seems about to die any second. Is there anything I can do? Black skirts are completely ok.

Today at a Petco store, the sales man was tryinng to convince me to get rid of my two small feeding gold fish. I like my fishes and I have no intetion to get rid of it. But he kept saying that my fishs will get too big for my 3 gallon aquarium, and that those fishes are no good, that they are dirty, etc. I was mad at the sales man, but I got intreged by the fact that he said that my fishes would get too big. Is that true?

He's almost a year old, he always eats his food and he seems really healthy and it's just that he's the only fish in the tank to just always be over there.

my dalmation molly had her batch of fry and looked really fluffy and ripped up. she looked really tired. it looked as if she was trying to gulp as much air as possible because her mouth opened really big when breathing. she was in a breeding tank inside the only tank i have when she had her fry and i put her out with the other fish abuot two hours later. but she only kept to a corner by herself. and all her babies were dead except for one. the next morning, the mommy molly was dead and looked all whitish and her eyes were foggy. could all this be because of ich? but the thing is.. she didnt have ich before she had her babies. i need help !!!!

I can't stand the bright aquarium light over my tank, but I can't see my fish well without it. Is there a way or a knob to durn down the voltage to it so that the light wont be as strong? Or, are there dimmer lights that you have to buy seperately? Thanks :)

At the time I had:

-4 tetra's (2 red and black; 2 blue and black)-
-an algae eater
-2 guppies (before 1 disappeared)

Well when I got my 2 guppies yesterday I said it to the person the got me the 2 guppies from the tank and she said it was my algae eater..

Well my question now is basically. Should I get rid of my algae Eater and get like 2-3 snails?

I woke up this morning to find my Japanese fighter had completly dissapeared! He was the biggest fish in the tank and my favourite as he was beatifull!
He looked perfectly healthy and content last night swiming in and out of his castle and keeping my other fish in check.
I have recently introduced 10 pencil fish, but everyone seemed unphased by their arrival.
I know my tetras have slowly decreased in number, but they are tiny and you'd expect them to leave no trace behind.
I have a large tank which now homes three dwarf gourami's one spotted gourami, two indian gouramis, ten pencils, three neon's and one cat fish( who is reletively small and keeps himself to himself)
I am astounded that such a large and assertive fish can be eaten, presumably alive, in the space of a few hours.
Has this happened to anyone before?

I was wondering because I had a fish tank before and the water always got cloudy and dirty looking. I am thinking about setting up a tank again and just wanted to know what to buy to keep the water crystal clear and how much will it cost? Thanks for your answers.
