my dalmation molly had her batch of fry and looked really fluffy and ripped up. she looked really tired. it looked as if she was trying to gulp as much air as possible because her mouth opened really big when breathing. she was in a breeding tank inside the only tank i have when she had her fry and i put her out with the other fish abuot two hours later. but she only kept to a corner by herself. and all her babies were dead except for one. the next morning, the mommy molly was dead and looked all whitish and her eyes were foggy. could all this be because of ich? but the thing is.. she didnt have ich before she had her babies. i need help !!!!

Not ick, that's for sure. Shehad a problem with a premature birth it sounds like to me. Complications from trying to give birth too. It's rare but it does happen sometimes. Sorry you lost your fish.

I'm pretty sure it isn't ich.
The stress of having the babies could have killed her. Or if there was something wrong with the babies(You said they all died except for one) when they were born(Tail first, etc,.)

Or maybe there was not enough dissolved oxygen for her. AND you are NOT supposed to put a fish that had just finished birthing back with your other fish. She should be allowed to rest for a day at the least, by herself.

And when fish die, they have a foggy eye colour, unless they are frozen immediately(Which is why the eyes of frozen fish look clear(Frozen fish as in the kind you eat, not frozen pet fish 0.0)).

Ich doesn't just show up in a day. She might have just been a defective fish. Mollies are bred tens of thousands at a time and sometimes bad ones come out of the fish breeders. I know you want to get all attached to it, but it's just a fish. Go get another one and try again.

Sounds like she was too young for birthing. Some fish which get prego too young suffer from still births and dead eggs or can get egg bound. It doesn't sound like ich. Sounds more like she was just too young yet to breed. (This happens often) At least you got one baby! Her eyes more than likely got foggy due to something rupturing internally as she had her babies. Sorry to hear about that.

Ich sets in due to stress, however this doesn't sound like ich.

To be on the safe side, watch your other fish for any signs of ich (white spots, patches especially on fins and gills).
Again, sorry to hear about your mama fish.

Live bearers should not be moved or netted for two weeks before they are due to drop their young. To do so puts them under too much stress and can cause premature births and parental death. It is much more humane to just add a lot of plants to the tank and let them lose a few fry to predation, than to kill the whole lot by excessive handling. The whitish stuff was the fungus that grows on fish that have compromised immune systems. ---Sorry you lost your pet. Better luck next time.-------PeeTee
