i just took the baby convict cichlids from their parents, they were about 1/4 inch. how long will it take the mated pair in the tank to mate again? the babies were about 2 - 3 weeks old. there is plenty of rocks and plants. 55 gallon with 2 whisper 60 power filters.

Convicts are about the most prodigious cichlids out there, once a pair establishes a bond they will produce broods constantly. That's the reason they are so cheap in the stores, and the reason few stores will buy them from you.

Your tank conditions are good, size is good and filtration is fine. I would expect the pair to lay eggs again with in a week or two. One thing to keep in mind, all that spawning, and really that's what convicts do, does take it's toll on the fish, especially the female. Keep them well fed and conditioned.

Have fun with them, they are great fish to watch!
