At the time I had:

-4 tetra's (2 red and black; 2 blue and black)-
-an algae eater
-2 guppies (before 1 disappeared)

Well when I got my 2 guppies yesterday I said it to the person the got me the 2 guppies from the tank and she said it was my algae eater..

Well my question now is basically. Should I get rid of my algae Eater and get like 2-3 snails?

So should I get rid of my tetra's and just raise cute lil guppies?

I would blame the tetras before the otos personally.

What kind of algae eater, and what size tank? Best bet is to find out what type of algae eater you have, and do some research on that species. It's possible that it killed your guppies, but something else could have happened as well. It's hard to say without more information.

Did it some how end up being sucked into the filter? That happened with a friends goldfish. Or do you have a cat, or another pet that could get a paw in a snatch it? And, if you don't have a hood it may be jumped out.

Don't get rid of your algae eater, it couldn’t have done it. They are peaceful herbivores.

No. I have 2 algae eaters in my tank and they are doing just fine. It might be one of your tetras depending on how big they are.

maybe it got sucked up by the filter or hopped out

algae eaters aren't usually overly agressive.

those snails will mate and multiply like wildfire especially in a 5 gallon tank
