Have approx 20 fish in there, most have or showing signs of Ick. Bought 2 bala sharks about a week ago from fish store with other tanks that were "quarantined" due to ick, clerk stated those were on a separate filtration system....obviously not. I've treated and changed 30% of the water. The tank was well established as were most of the fish.

Need help--Ick appearing to multiply on each fish. Also, have to Gourami's both developing red portions on their fins, close to the joints (pectoral/dorsal fins)..is this Ick or some type of fin disease.
Needless to say, I'll never buy from that location again.

I got a 29 gallon tank in november and have had great success with it I need to know, I did a partial water change today is it ok to replace the filter now? I heard you were not supposed to change the filter too often because of the good bacteria for the tank that is in the filter. also what is the best way to clean the fake plants that I have in there? thanks in advance.

I came home one day to find that one of my three guppies was missing - being a biorb I thought it to be under the ceramic media - when I emptied it to check there was no fish - it had been eaten. Today I found that two guppies had attacked my fantail and caused it to half an hour die. I don't know why they have done this as they have been living peacefully together for about 5-6 months now. Thanks fir your help.

I just want to know if a bowl that can contain 2.5 gallons of water, which is 12" with and 7" height is considered to be a too small bowl for one goldfish (or perhaps two small ones) or a Betta ?

I am getting different opinions on this.

Thanks!

And can you still buy them, if so where? I seen a question mentioning Sea Monkeys and I remember them as a child and I just thought that was the neatest thing, little eggs that hatch in the water and the idea that little monkeys swimming in your water, lol. I just wanted to experience this with my children

My daughters beta fish has been sluggish and w/o an appetite for a week now. This morning we found him floating vertical yet still alive. Is there anything I can do? If not is there a quick method of putting it out of its misery? Its my daughters first pet. :(

Softening my tap water for Angel fish seems to be insurmountable. My tap waters measures extremely hard, about 12.0 to 13.0 it's terrible...leaves spots on dishes...can see mineral deposits in ice cubes and so on. I have tried to soften the water in the tank (55g) with a product called Amazon Rain which came highly recommended by the local fish place here in Arizona. It was expensive and I don't want to have to be dependent on buying an expensive product so what's the best way to get this super hard water down to a respective range for Angel fish? I have heard about filtering with peat but that sounds messy and not practical in an apartment (no garage or other area since it smells) Ideas anyone? Their experiences? Thanks much.

I came into work today and my fish don't seem as active as they usually are. I changed the water on Friday and they were fed over the weekend. They ate when I fed them this morning, but they still just kinda lightly swin on the bottom 1/4 of their 2.5 gallon tank. Any ideas what's wrong and how I can perk them up?

I got some great replies about what to do with my fish tank, and I have some questions about those replies! I was told to use peat filtration. I would like to know how you do that? Isn't peat messy? I was told by Petsmart that I could use peat or driftwood. I chose driftwood because I figured it wasn't as messy as peat. Also, those of you who use baking soda...exactly how much is a "small" dose? I have a 36 gallon tank.

And one last question, are there any fish that pair well with angels? Any little schooling fish that can handle the Ph difference that the angels like?
