If you just want to know in cubic litres, multiply width, height and depth.
For gallons, calculate width x height x depth (in square feet) and multiply by 7.47. For litres, divide by 4 (well, more like 3.9).

Lenth if the tank is 30cm so the apothem is 15 cm (assming the length is measured side to side (not corner to corner) and that the base is a regular octogon) The perimeter is then 12 * 8 = 96 cm. The formula for the area of a regular polygon is A = 1/2ap, =1/2*15*96 (cm) V= A*h = A*28cm there you go

Multiply the length by the depth by the height (of the water level) in cm, 1 cm cubed is 1 ml of water so e.g. a 10 x 10 x 10cm tank would be 1,000 cubic cm and thus hold 1 Liter.

Measureing internalally, Width times Lenth times Depth
if you use cm then the answer will be in cubic centimeters and the same for inches (cubic inches)
there is 1000 cubic centimeters (cc's) to 1 litre

Length x Width x Depth (all in feet. ie 15 inches would be 1.25. 18 inches would be 1.5) x 6.25=gallons x 4.54=litres. Thats as precise as you'll ever need for dosing etc. You could then minus 8-10% off that for gravel, ornaments etc.

WxLxD in inches and divide that by 231 and that will give you gallons of your tank. you will have to subtract what you have in your tank ad far as your gravel. 231 is the square inches in a gallon of water. I hope this helps and is very easy to figure out.
