You know you cant just put fish in don't you , you have to leave the water at least a week then test it.
If all is OK introduce 2 or 3 at a time the longer you leave between putting new fish in the better because the tank will have had a chance to build up bacteria
Its best to get a cheap beginners book from your pet shop

When you go to the pet store, the tanks are usually arranged and labeled as "community" "semi-aggressive" or "aggressive"
Community fish will go well together.
HOWEVER... do not put any type of goldfish in with tropical fish.
Goldfish create a lot of ammonia which will kill the other fish.
If you do go with just goldfish, fancy or otherwise, you MUST change the water much more frequently and also have a much more superior filter than would ordinarily be used for that sized tank.
Goldfish tend to get septic... as you will see their veins become very prominent on their fins and tails.
You would think goldfish were a lot easier to maintain but they are actually more work than tropical fish.

it would depend on the size of the tank if it is a small tank some neons with some gubbies and mollys. Or maybe some small tetras but if you are intending breeding them i suggest you leave the tetras out as the may feed on fry of the other fish. If you have a medium size tank you could try some young silver dollers but the do grow fairly big but a vegitarians an wont harm other fish but would eat their eggs. If you have a very large than you could keep some of the more aqqressive fish like oscars but they can be quiet aqrressive when the qrow to a big enough size and i wouldnt advise mixing them with othe fish as they would eat them

you cannot put any fish in it yet until you have tested the water stat's and got good bacteria growing in the filter media. This will take around 3 weeks. I go to a great forum for tropical fish where you can get some very good info. If you put fish into a new tank you will end up losing them and have to pay for more fish. Do it right .

Well I know that Oscars are a very aggressive fish and they will eat other tropical fish, same goes with the "I think you call them Japanese fighting fish" you cannot have more than one in a tank at a time, they will fight til death. But just go to your local pet store, Petsmart for instant, they have highly educated people in there that will assist you. I have a small tank whicj consist of two black big eyes gold fish, I am not sure their exact name and an algea eater, there are just so many to pick from. Have fun picking your fish out.

When you go to buy the fish the person working there will be able to give you the most information. Most fish are labeled according to aggressiveness. When you say tropical, I assume you are speaking of a saltwater tank? Please know that they tend to be a bit more expensive and require more attention on your behalf.

,go to fish store buy a good book, and you need community fish.some are easy to keep.try life bearers that's where fish have baby's. and other fish are eggs layers.i think life bearers are great for a new fish keeper, plus you can buy a small tank that float in main tank,to keep new born baby's and stops other fish eating them, ask at store to see one, don't buy gold fish keep to tropical hope this helps you good luck,a fish keeper,to many year to say.

They have two type's of fish aggresive and non-aggresssive. Gold fish are best to start out with. They are not very expensive and you can trial and error these. Try reading a book from the library. The filter is actually the most important part of the fish tank they also need air.

There are lots of "Community" fish. Too many to say here. Easy ones are things like - Neon Tetra Guppies and Zebra fish.
