They are probably capable of it. They have a mouth full of needle sharp teeth and prey on fish larger than a person's foot. They weigh up to three hundred pounds when full grown. Generally, dolphins, even dolphins in the wild, are pretty docile toward humans. It is unlikely they would try to bite off a human's foot. However, they are large, strong, wild animals with wild instincts and should be treated with respect.

First of all I would like to let you know that a dolphin is not a fish. Second I searched around and have found no instances of this ever occuring. It seems to me highly unlikely. A dolphin is more apt to use its snout or tail when threatened. They do have teeth and they can bite but generally they keep to themselves if they are left alone.

Yes they can. It might take them a few minutes, and alot of chewing, and excrutiating pain for you, but yes they can. They have regular teeth, and they chew things that are to big to fit down their throat.
But the likelyhood of a dolphin biting off your foot, let alone any other part of your body, in any mood other then playful, is very slim. Dolphins are aggressive, but they can sense what purpose you have, and if they're captive, they're people friendly, they're used to people. If they're wild, I wouldn't chance it. Chances of them attacking you are a little higher, but they are still low!!

I would have to say yes if the situation presented itself. They eat fish like Mackerel and such, which are bigger than the human foot. They are very adept at protecting themselves too. Dolphins can and do kill sharks all the time. They tighten the muscles in their heads and bash the shark to stun it. Once the shark stops swimming, it will drown. So... I'd say it's best to keep your feet out of the water!
