Female bettas will usually be carrying eggs when they are healthy and in breeding condition. Feed your lady lots of good quality, varied foods. You will notice she will start to get round in her abdoment - she has eggs at this time.
If the male has his bubble nest ready, you can attempt to spawn them. But the female with the male - if he accepted her (and vice versa) he will squeeze her with his body, and the eggs will be pushed out. Remove the female. The male will then place the eggs in the bubble nest and care for them diligently until they hatch, 2-3 days later. You must then remove the male so he can start to eat again (and not eat the babies).

All healthy females have eggs. A large belly is generally a sign of over feeding. Note that like most fish betta are egg layers. Guppy, platy, swordtail, and molly are the only ones found in aquariums that give live birth.

PS- With bettas the male builds a build nest, and cares for the eggs. Females need to be removed. As they often like to eat eggs, and the male will often kill a female to defend his nest. Breeding bettas is really quite complex. You need a breeding tank, and food for the fry. (Betta fry are too small to eat flakes.) With out the right prep it's just going to end in tears. (With the right prep it will like only end in tears the 1st couple of times.)

If you mean how will you know if she is CARRYING eggs, she will be a little chubbier than usual, but you probably won't know until they're out. Even then, if you don't remove the fish from the tank in which she has laid them, they will not be her babies, they will be her breakfast.

And you do know that you cannot put the male and female together unless the male has built a bubble nest.

Also, that you will need to separate all the fry if they DO hatch.

You don't they don't incubate inside the females releases their eggs in a bubble nest the male makes and he releases his sperm directly onto them. Once that part is over you need to remove the female as it is the male betta who tends the nest and watches over the eggs until they hatch,
