Personally, I chose my favorite breeds based on personality. I love Chesapeake Bay Retrievers even though they look like plain old boring brown dogs.

I love it but my dogs are really babied and they stay perched on me all day. I'm home all day with them. I didn't sleep with one of them last night. I'm trying to get them out habit. The problem is I have chronic pain and they feel like heating pads lol. They get plenty of exercise.

I have 2 dogs. Recently me and my wife moved into an apartment. Our one dog (Apollo) seems to have adjusted just fine, but the other one (Otis) is peeing, not just in the house but on things, as well as pooing sometimes several times a day inside. In our old house the dogs would never go in the house, even if they were left all day. Now it seems if there is 3 hours between trips outside and no one around Otis will go inside. We also have a fairly new baby and thought he might be doing it for attention but even after giving him more attention and letting him sleep with us again he is still continueing this behavior. My wife is getting to the point where she wants to get rid of him which will break my heart... what do I do to get him to stop? I don't know how to train him when he's already been trained and I can not figure out why he is doing this.

My Italian Greyhound stole and entire loaf of freshly baked bread off the kitchen counter. He ate the entire thing and he looked like a barrel afterwards.

I bought my dog a big round fluffy filled pad to lay around on while on the floor. He walkes up to it and starts scratching like he is fluffing the damned thing. He goes on scratching and pawing at it for a couple minutes and when he gets the middle fluffed up again, he lays down. Is my big brown dog fluffing up his own mattress? Its so peculiar I cannot believe he is fluffing his own bed in preperation for bedtime. What do you think?
If he doesnt fluff it, there is a big dent in the middle from him laying on it.

I've looked through articles about training your dog, and they tell me all kinds of things like have treats ready and praise them like there's no tomorrow, but they don't tell me the actual proccess of teaching it to sit.
I know you can't just say sit and push it down, dogs dont speak english after all. Any ideas?

I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR THE "DROP IT" AND "COME" commands. Thanks!

My 2yr and 8mos Bichon/Poodle suffered from MILD separation anxiety when he was young, he eventually grew out of it...UNTIL we moved to our new apt. We placed a baby gate on our hallway that leads to the front door because he will scratch and chew on the door and carpet. It gets so bad to the point where he got torn nails and now a superficial wound on his paws! He somehow was able to jump over the baby gate!
A vet mentioned Clomicalm and I was wondering if anyone used is or is using it and how is it working out for you?

thank you!

I am getting a female puppy (cavalier king charles spaniel) and love the name Kia, then realised its the name of an apparently ugly brand of car. Do you reckon its any good? Or do you have any better names??
any contributions welcome!!

Rhetorical question here b/c I know the answer already.. Its the YAHOO ANSWERS DOGGY PPL thats who. My heart fills with happiness for the good and funny stories I read heer and sorrow for the sad and cruel stories, but they all make me think about how lucky I am to have my baby girl, when I read of the love that WE have for our furry family memebers.

Ever since I started working at a local pet store, I've become a HUGE pet food health nut. The pet store sells the good food (aka Wellness, Solid Gold), and also the bad food (Iams, Science Diet). Just was wondering how many people actually fed their dog the food that is actually good for them.

Below is a list of ingrediants that some dog foods have in (By Nature, Iams, and others) that, once you know what it is, most people switch dog foods.

Are there questions that you just flat-out don't answer?

A couple of the topics I don't answer include (but are not limited to) aggressive dogs and the breeding/whelping process. I don't have any experience or knowledge base, so I don't even try to answer.

I've noticed that a lot of dogs will recognize others of their own breed.

My Italian Greyhound likes other dogs, but he LOVES other IG's. He goes nuts when he sees another of his own kind. And my Jack Russell loves other terriers more than other dogs.

I've been in this forum for a while now. I've seen wannabee's come and go. I NOW see a trend that I think may be questionable to say the least. Even dangerous to the askers dog..

People putting, I am a VET in their source box.

Do you think actual Vet's really have the time to come here to answer questions???

What do you think?........

I just got back from the vet a couple hours ago. My vet gave my puppy some medicine for Coccidia. She also had Hypoglycemia since she has been vomiting and diarhea. I gave her medicine and since leaving the vet my puppy has pooped about 7 times and has diarhea bad.. she ate a little and drank some but her stomach is so messed up she doesnt want to eat anymore. I have been giving her nutri cal to try and keep her blood sugar up but I am worried she cant keep enough in her system to raise her blood sugar. I have forced her to drink water using a syringe but she absolutely refuses food because as soon as she eats she runs and poops it out which I am sure her bum is sore now since she is rubbing it on the carpet. She is sleeping and just wants to sleep. She is shivering when she sleeps and its not really cold. Should I just leave her be? let her sleep? I am just so affraid she doesnt have enough food in her body to heelp her immune system fight off the coccidia. Please someone help.

I was just reading someone's post about dog bite statistics by breed and I was just wondering:
1) how many bites probably go unreported, meaning some breeds might have higher occurances of bites than actually documented
2) how many bites are by mixed breeds who's exact history is unknown - and people might just 'guess' their breed incorrectly

Are my questions far fetched? Do you think dog bite statistics are pretty accurate?
