Just have your records easily available as to vacs and shots. Any animal be it big or small is going to defend itself if anyone , child or adult hurts it. My best friend was having a party one night with about 75 people inside and out and she had a big lab and some woman crashed the party and was outside and apparently tipsy and started to fall over as she was petting the dog and it bit her on the face. I was there when it happened. She was asked to leave and she went to the ER and animal control did contact my friend and came to her house but she had no problem because the dog was in a fenced in yard, the woman was uninvited and it was the first time the dog had ever bitten anyone. I know this is a different situation from yours but you shouldn't worry. Animal control knows all about these things. YOu will have to pay the bill for the doc or you can file a claim on your homeowners insurance and they will pay the bills. I have a maltese mix pup that is only about 7 months old and she is very excitable when ever she gets out of being locked up. It is just the nature of the dogs. I wouldn't let her be around small children any more though even if the child did pull his tail. He may have just been playing and then again he might have been angry. Too bad he can't telll you his side of the story LOL Hope it all turns out well for you

If your dog is up-to-date on his shots and you can prove it, you may not have to quarantine your dog. However you DO need to pay for the medical care the child received and should a scar ensue, any further medical care or plastic surgery needed. Both the dog and the child were YOUR responsibility so you will have to do the right thing. The fact that your daughter let the dog out is immaterial - She is a minor and YOU are the adult that is responsible, legally and morally. You should have restrained either the dog or the toddler so one would not harm the other. And the todder should have been under direct supervision so that when the dog got out, you could have intervened BEFORE the child grabbed his tail. I am well aware that both toddlers and dogs are fast - but are you? Well you are now. I hope they don't sue you, but you will forestall a lot of that if you offer to do the right thing.

Your dog may be quarantined depending on state laws in your area. You will most likely receive a citation, they'll want to temperament test the dog, get a health check done on him and if your lucky that is it. If the parents press charges you may lose your dog.

add: Sorry forgot to answer the other part. My dog is labeled as vicious and has to be muzzled in public. I've never been in the exact situation however I researched when I got my citation so I knew what to expect IF my dog did bite someone. I'm lucky/unlucky depending on which view you have..I live in a "one bite" state.

Please don't type in all capitals. It is seen as shouting and very rude.

The dog did nothing wrong. It was acting in self-defense. Your daughter is to blame for letting the dog out and you are to blame for not having better control of the three year old.

The toy breeds are known for not being the greatest with small children, who don't know any better and are very free with their hands. Animal control should not punish the dog and they probably won't, but if a second incident occurs, they might, even if the dog is blameless. Please be more watchful with your dog around small children. It's not fair to the animal.

Government sucks. It would be different it the mom pressed charges. I can't say what will happen cause I don't know your local laws. But I can say that I would work with the dog. I trained mine that it is never ok to bite. When training I would pull their tail and ears like a kid would and they would learn to pull away and avoid people pulling their ears and tail instead of bite.

I think animal control has to come and investigate, but probably just to keep the incident on record. I don't think they'll take your dog away or anything...esp. since the child's parents isn't going to press charges...AND it's only your dog's 1st time hurting a child. You might have to worry though...if your dog bites again...and again. It depends on how many times and how much damage. Animal control will probably just come to see in person how dangerous your dog is...but if it's the 1st time your dog did this, I don't thing there's anything to worry about.

He gets ample of it someday. Better he gain knowledge of how one can manage a bully at dwelling whilst it's household, "anyone who would possibly not sue name the police or have your little one expelled" When he defends himself towards her he would possibly not be as more likely to take it from a stranger so it would possibly not get to the factor in which he just about kills a child at institution on account that he had such a lot he misplaced all manage he'll simply finish it whilst it starts. Try punishing him for now not combating again. That is what my mother and father did. If we had a main issue dad could take us out within the again backyard and allow us to settle it until we had been approximately 15 then the acquaintances stated they had been going to name the police officers. So then we acquired boxing gloves and that settled the acquaintances for a even as then we simply fought longer on account that of the gloves. Did you understand home violence is a prison even though it is only brothers combating within the backyard? Shock to me too lengthy tale quick all of us moved out of the mother and father condo.
