I just got back from the vet a couple hours ago. My vet gave my puppy some medicine for Coccidia. She also had Hypoglycemia since she has been vomiting and diarhea. I gave her medicine and since leaving the vet my puppy has pooped about 7 times and has diarhea bad.. she ate a little and drank some but her stomach is so messed up she doesnt want to eat anymore. I have been giving her nutri cal to try and keep her blood sugar up but I am worried she cant keep enough in her system to raise her blood sugar. I have forced her to drink water using a syringe but she absolutely refuses food because as soon as she eats she runs and poops it out which I am sure her bum is sore now since she is rubbing it on the carpet. She is sleeping and just wants to sleep. She is shivering when she sleeps and its not really cold. Should I just leave her be? let her sleep? I am just so affraid she doesnt have enough food in her body to heelp her immune system fight off the coccidia. Please someone help.

She just got back from the vet 2 hours ago... I have started her on her medicine.. I am more so looking for responses from people who have experience with it and can tell me what to expect and how they handled getting them to eat and drink and such. Trust me, I took her to the vet as soon as the vomiting started :/ But the vomiting has stopped since they gave her a shot for it.. I just need to hear from people who have been through this.. I am a worry wart.. I don't want my puppy to die and I have done everything I can do.. I just want to make sure I can give her the most I can to help her lil body fight off the illness

Coccidia is a little protozoal parasite that causes GI upset. Your pup could have a really bad infection that is causing all of those signs but usually it doesn' t cause such severe illness. The medication for coccidia hopefully is albon (sulfadimethoxine) which can also help with diarrhea for any reason. I don't know how low her sugar got, but if it gets below about 60 she could have tremors or seizures, or act really depressed and start drooling. Honestly, it kind of sounds to me like your puppy might be better off in the vet hospital (24 hr care) on IV fluids to keep her hydrated. They could add dextrose (sugar) to the fluids to keep her sugar up as well. This way she is supported while her gut has a chance to heal and relax. I don't know what type of dog she is, but those little tiny dogs like Yorkies, Maltese's, etc. are very prone to hypoglycemic issues and dehydrate very quickly. Nutri cal is mostly sugar so that is a good idea, but you can even just rub karo syrup on her gums so she doesnt' have to swallow anything and that might help keep her sugar up. Don't force feed her anything at this point since she has been vomiting. Just keep water available and a small amount of bland food like rice. If she is alert and responsive now, she might be ok til morning but the safest thing to do is head for the emergency vet and get her on fluids. Yes, I know it's expensive, but sometimes just one night or one 24 hour period is enough for these guys to feel 100% better. good luck.

my puppy had coccidia too and my vet said it was not that serious & that it would just cause runny stool. if your pup is this bad off because of coccidia, I have to assume that her system is bombarded with it. Or she has something else more serious. If she won't eat, you might have to get her put on an i.v. which ain't cheap, I had to have it done with a different puppy I bought from a pet store. But it is better than taking the chance of your pup dying. I would keep the fluids up with the syringe, and even substitute water with pedialyte or some off-brand (same stuff) to give her some nutrients and electrloytes. If she is keeping fluids down, give her a couple days before taking her back to the vet. Keep giving her her medicine, and let her get her sleep. She is sleeping so much because her body is trying to fight off illness. Sleep for her is good. If she's shivering, she probably is cold, cover her up. Call your vet & see what they say about the not eating. I am sure its o.k. for a cpl. days, as long as she is getting her meds. and plenty of fluids & rest.

First remove the water and replace it with the baby non-flavored pediolyte, let it drink all it wants, this will settle the stomach and help with the diarrhea.Next give your pet a dab of plain honey on its tongue to elevate its sugar level, this can be done every 3 hours.Boil some chicken, cut in small pieces, put in blender with small amount of water and puree it,most pets will eat this when nothing else.If your pet refuses toeat, you must force feed it either the puree chicken or pediolyte with a syringe. If your vet didn't give you the Albon meds, please call him and ask for this med,as it is very good for coccidia. It is very important to clean and sterilize both hands and other areas this pet has been,as this is very contagious to humans and other pets.If the Albon is given for 7 to 10 days this pet will be ok after the third day,but only if you Force feed when it won't eat.You may also try and give it about 1/3 teaspoon of pepto bismol every 4 to 6 hors.

There are a few real keys to dog training, whether you are trying to train your dog to come when called, sit, stop barking or any other behavior. Understanding their importance is critical to achieving rapid results that are long lasting and help develop the bond between you and your dog. Read more here https://bitly.im/PHbbO
The first is simple; you must win your dogs mind. If you don’t achieve this first then you will be struggling the all the way. When I talk about winning your dogs mind what I really mean is that your dog looks to you for all the decisions. Before you do anything else watch one of the amazing video sites that show you the 5 Golden rules to establishing yourself as the pack leader. If you aren’t putting these in place then you are setting yourself up to fail. Just at the crucial point where you really want your dog to listen they will go and do their own thing. For sure your dog may play ball occasionally or even most of the time, you may even have a dog that is obedient 99% of the time, however if you want a dog who always listens to you and does as you ask then you need to win your dogs mind.
The second key to success is to motivate your dog. It is really important that you discover what it is that your dog enjoys both in terms of exercise and play but also in terms of a reward. If you can make the experience enjoyable then you will both achieve more and look forward to training.
Some dogs love to fetch, others love agility, and other dogs simply love obedience training, or swimming out into water and retrieve. At least to start with find out what your dogs love is and help them develop this, what I am saying is work with your dog. The other point to recognize is to make training enjoyable reward your dog.

hi yes i've got experience with coccidia it's a very terrible parasite could be caused by flys, birds, rats, cats just about anything can carry it and it is highly contagious and extreamly hard on puppies i lost 3 puppies to coccidia in a 2 week period it drove me crazy trying to figure out what was wrong with my puppies my vet advised me to only give my pups pedalyte , gatorade, and plain yogurt and then naturally the antiboitics that they prescribed and the fluids that they sent me home with but they still didn't make it coccidia is very very harsh on a puppy my pups wound up pooping pure blood (it ran out of them like pure water) when they get to that point it's almost impossible to get them through it i really hope that you caught it in time your vet should have either prescribed you albon or stmp antiboitics for the pup if the pup is still throwing up and don't keep her meds down then you will have to get her or him back to the vet asap or it will die i went crazy looking for any and all info on coccidia on the net here's the links i used i hope your little pup pulls through it if you see any signs at all of him or her getting worse please get it to the vet again asap and make sure the pup does not get cold as you will see him or her fading faster it's very important to keep this pup warm
by the way you didn't by chance use feedstore shots on your pups did you? my vet said that was what gave my pups the coccidia

do you know what injection the vet gave? did they give her any fluids under her skin?
keep using the nutrical and make sure she stays warm. the medication for coccidia (albon?) can take a couple of days to start working. for a sore bottom you can use neosporin or some diaper rash cream. if pupy still has diarrhea in the am, call your vet and see if they cant give her an injection to help stop it (centrine).

It does sound as if your pup may need help staying hydrating. I would call the vet . Coccidia in itself is not uncommon but the effects can cause dehydration which compounds the situation and can make things go downhill quickly. Try giving the pup childrens pedialyte. This will help keep the pup hydrated as well as keep electrolytes up.
