yes your dog will miss you,but he knows your dad and that will comfort him.As long as he knows someone he should be fine.Bring his favourite things with him, like toys ,etc.Don't worry he will be fine.

Yeah... they do. Very much so. Probably more than humans. I can't go on trips without my dog anymore, for that reason. When we were younger, if I left for a bit my mom and step-father would watch him... and he'd refuse to eat, would mope around, etc... He always ended up losing a few pounds, so I'd purposely fatten him up before I went anywhere. As he gets older (13 now)... about a year and a half ago I went on a week long trip... before I left, he was running and jumping like a dog half his age... his age had never caught up with him. When I got back, he was struggling to get up and down stairs and had to be carried (they claim it was gradual... he started by not eating and moping, and lost energy, and let arthritis get the better of him).

Also, if you've ever had a neighbor who left their dog while at work for the day and you heard the dog bark all day... there you go. They miss their people.

Yes dogs miss you. The best thing you can do though, I have found, is to have at least thirty minutes with the dog before you go. Tell them how much you are going to miss him/her. Most people think that this will make the dog think that you are going away forever, and though it may seem like that to most dogs, they will appreciate it and love you that much more when you return. The second they smell you, it will be like you never left. Other than the huge amount of love and affection YOU will get for returning to love them again.

Personally I do think they miss us. I recently went out of town for several weeks and when I came back all 4 of my dogs were so happy to see me (more so than if I'd gone to the corner store and back). I don't know if they miss us in the same manner that we miss someone, but any change to their routine does affect them. As long as your dog adores your dad, though, he should be fine. I think it'll affect you more than your dog. Of course, that said, my husband and I have never left our dogs in someone else's care...if I'm going somewhere overnight (or longer) he stays home with the dogs and vice versa. I would never let them spend a night alone...ever...so I'm glad to hear that you're entrusting him to someone you know will be good to him! Enjoy your holiday and know he'll be ok.

Of course they miss us. When I used to travel, I left my dog with family, who my dog loved. But she missed me and would mope around a bit. They do get over it, especially if the people you leave them with shower them with attention and love.

I have to say though that we miss them so much more... I had my own little sweetie put to sleep this summer. And there's never a day that she is far from my thoughts. Not one day.

Oh yes they do. Our lab would sleep near my hubby and I at night upstairs, but when my hubby went down south for a few months to help out with clean up after Hurricane Katrina, my dog refused to sleep upstairs with me, he wanted to sleep by the door. I think he was waiting for his daddy to come home, which he did, months later. And while he was gone, if he heard the word 'daddy' he would search the house for him. I missed him too of course and when I would cry, my dog would be there by my side.

when my family and I go somewhere for 1-2 hours my dog tends to be over excited when we get home. So yes, dogs can miss you.

sure they can but it's usually less extreme than the human emotion. dogs can get home sick and a little confused by a different routine. he'll be very excited to see you when you get back.

very young puppies have on occasion developed separation anxiety but that's a very rare case. when i first got my yorkie he had a small case of separation anxiety and that was just from me going out to check the mail. but eventually the other three dogs calmed him down and he grew out of it but my dogs are all peeping out the window at the same time every day waiting for me to pop up from behind the big hedges coming home

most animals miss their companions and owners, its not really thinking like a person as all higher creatures have emotions, are they wondering where you went, any break from the routine and they worry, some dogs are use to owners who travel and seem to know you'll be back. you know they mixxed you because they act so glad to see you come back

when my fiancee and I left town for a month to go to summer school we left our husky with his mom. The dog really did miss us, she wouldn't interact interact with anyone, just sit perched up on the window sill waiting for us to come home. When we finally did come home, she was so happy to see us and her disposition totally changed. She became interactive again and stopped looking out the window.
