I love it but my dogs are really babied and they stay perched on me all day. I'm home all day with them. I didn't sleep with one of them last night. I'm trying to get them out habit. The problem is I have chronic pain and they feel like heating pads lol. They get plenty of exercise.

You don't say how many dogs or what size they are. However, I have three and they are all very large. One sleeps in the living room, one in the kitchen and the other sleeps with me on the bed. (for some reason they have all chosen their spots with no problem). The husky/lab that sleeps on my bed will lay at the end of the bed on the opposite side that I am on. She is on alert all night, which is comforting to me in case of an intruder etc., The other two are also comforting in that respect. But if they are causing you discomfort/pain then you need to stop/teach them right away that the bed with you is not their spot to sleep. I have back pain and a heating pad would feel wonderful in bed tho...so you have a choice to make and hope it works out for you. Good Luck!

The best thing is to make them members of the human pack which includes sleeping. If they are outside dogs that is what they will protect...their area. If you are a member of their pack they will protect you. I slept with my Dobie all the time when she was living. My brother has a Chihuahua rescue and at one time he had 17 snuggling with him at night. Of course if it is the size of a St. Bernard then you either need to be single or have a gigantic bed. I know of a couple that had their St. Bernard sleep between them at night. They eventually got a divorce. My other friend got married and her little Chihuahua would not let her Honey near her and would bite him on the end of his nose. If they wanted to have fun the pup had to be locked up for awhile lol. Mmm

If they're more dominating, it could be a bad idea. My parents' Aussie mix (who thinks she runs everything) gets kicked off the bed when I get on, but my dog (who's only superior to puppies) can stay on. She has NO dominance issues and doesn't get confused or whatever. I'm with you on the heating pads thing, only my problem is cold toes! :) Perhaps find ways to wean your dogs from you in other ways, like not letting them eat at the table with you (I'm being facetious) or something first.

My dog sleeps under the covers either by my back or at my feet. There's nothing wrong with it and if they're acting as heat pads and keeping you warm, that's great. Dogs are natural pack animals and natural protectors.

It doesn't hurt to let them sleep with you especially since they already started, mine sleep with me and I have a collie, beagle cocker mix 2 pugs and a pom, a king size bed helps lol. But it really doesn't hurt and especially if they make your back feel better but once you start its hard to break an old habit but it is possible.

Dogs are natural pack animals. It is natural for them to want to sleep with someone. I don't think there is anything wrong with your dog sharing your bed. I actually think it is healthier for their psyche if they are allowed to hang with the pack., so to speak. Dogs can get depressed really easily if they feel they are being separated from others. Besides, it sounds like your dog is therapeutic for your back. It's good for them, it's good for you.... so don't worry about it. ( I would put them out during any "special" activities that might be going on in there but other than that.....they should stay.)
My dog sleeps with either me or my husband and he still KNOWS I am the alpha (leader) dog in our pack... so that really isn't an issue.

its ok to baby your dogs a little bit because you love them and sleeping with you is fine but if you are trying to get them to separate from you a little bit then try not to hold them that much during they day. pet them and things but not oo much. save that for when they are on your bed at night!

I LOVE dogs -- don't have one cuz I'm in an apartment and it wouldn't be fair but the truth --- if I had one and slept alone -- yeah, the baby would be able to sleep with me just cuz ---- they are like babies and want the closeness PLUS the security issue on top of it.

All 3 of our dogs sleep with my boyfriend and me and we wouldn't have it any other way. They each have their favorite spot and they are even "considerate" when they need to hop off the bed for awhile....lol.
