I have a little chi dog, and she has a heart problem. Lately, she has been coughing alot more and seems a little more tired than usual. I give her lasik, and cough medicine that help with the cough and keep the fluid buildup down. Now, she has not lost her sense of smell. She still has a voracious appetite. She runs down the stairs to see me 8 out of 10 times with her tail wagging, albeit...she is coughing. there are times when she is relaxed and walks around and does not cough. I know she has slowed down a bit the last month. But i do not think she is suffering. She still tells me when she wants to go out to use the bathroom. She barks and chases birds out of the yard, etc..(when i let her). When is it time? What real signs will tell me? I know she is not as comfortable as she wishes to be, but i do not think it's so uncomfortable just yet, that it warrants putting her to sleep. I am taking her to see her vet for a blood pressure test on tuesday. Any advice? Thank you so much!

We had 2 dogs and 2 cats who have the most loving home and got on very well but suddenly one of my cats had to be put down and then a week after one of my dogs had to be put down. As you can imagine we were all upset but my other dog has taken it very badly, he was always a bouncy, happy fun dog but now all he does is sleep and when i take him for a walk he just stays behind me when before he was exploring everything! He has also started to poo in the room he sleeps in and this is not like him at all, he was always shy about this if we were in the garden he would hide in the bush to do this!! I understand he is grieving but how can i help him? how long will he be like this? And how can i get his toilet habits back to normal?! Thank you in advance

my husband, who was very close to our puppy, recently died in a car accident. myself i'm a mess but so is my puppy. he's losing weight, the vet said there is no miracle cure and said it will take time. i just don't know what to do, i have no joy left in me and just can't cheer up our puppy. he doesn't want to eat or play, has become very protective of me and cries when i leave him so i've been taking him with me everywhere i go.
the vet was of no help and made me feel stupid for taking him to the vet for this. i just don't know what to do. i say puppy but he's almost 4 yrs old and weighs about 150lb, he's a great pyr.
this is a very hard time for me so if you don't have a constructive response please do not respond at all...please!
however if you have anything that could help please, PLEASE tell us what we can try.

My dog is over a year old now, and she still will not stop chewing... but she ONLY chews on WOOD! My baseboards, the latticing on my stairs, my deck - if it's wood, she's trying to eat it.

1) Why wood? And how do I get her to stop? (I tried that Bitter End stuff from Petsmart - doesn't work with her)

2) Isn't she a little old to still be in the puppy chewing phase? If not, when will she stop?

Thanks in advance for the help!

I want to get a dog preferably a 1-2 year old dog one thats young but not a complete puppy. The problem is most shelters reject me because I'm 20 years old and live in an apartment. I go to school and live in an average sized apartment 1100sq feet, I also live a few blocks from a park and go for daily runs in the morning (in which the new dog would come with) I thought this would be a good time to get a dog b/c my parents still cover most of my expenses so there won't be a problem there and with college classes I would be gone a max of 3 hours instead of leaving for a 9-5 job everyday, not to mention my roommate will be in and out as well. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, most breeders just have puppies which im not really looking for and most shelters don't think i'm fit for a dog. I would like to help out the shelters but it's getting to the point where I might end up getting a puppy any suggestions?

ALBUQUERQUE - If you live in Albuquerque, New Mexico, then this is your chance to help some of your favorite animals. At the New Mexico Doggie Dash and Dawddle, there will be a booth asking for dog supplies like leashes, collars, water bowls, brushes, etc. just ask an employee where to find the booth and you can either donate the supplies, or any extra money you have to offer. The dogs at the shelter need your help. Thanks.

P.S. If you do not live in Albuquerque, feel free to e-mail me at cspaws93@yahoo.com. We can give you information on how to help. If you don't fell comftorble giving strangers money, you can also ship supplies to the address you will recieve when you e-mail us. Thanks again.

I work at a pet shop and my boss gives the puppies etiher tetracycline or clavamox when they get sick. I recently noticed one of the puppies looks like it has a leg deformation. The legs arent broken but they are almost bent inwards. Can this be from the antibiotics that were given to them?

Please help me...I have been looking for answers and can't find them...I don't want to be told off...for asking by self righteous people...
My very well taken care of dog just had six puppies on halloween...it has been great!!! Untill today...my neighbor stopped by to see them...I went in the room to show her...and my dog started freeking out...and bit me...I was shocked...she is a very sweeeeet dog...I am not sure if it was the fact that I had a towel on my head...if she didn't know me? Or if my neighbor had cat smell on her? Or...??? Lots of visitors have stopped by to peek, and she was fine!!!! I am in shock that she bit me...she is very nervous and is now trying to move the puppies from her whelping box...My husband is trying to calm her...we have fed her...taken her outside...talked with her...she is just a wreck...what should we do? Will she calm down? We are worried sick...please just help...don't preach at me....

Can someone please explain to me a person's reason for the following:
1) Buying a dog from a pet store after being warned and informed about puppy mills.
2) Buying a dog from a breeder after being told there at 16 million homeless dogs in shelters that are put down every year.
3) Why people downright refuse to spay or neuter their pet?
4) Why people insist on breeding their pet, despite knowing about the overpopulation problem.
5) Why I get a massive amount of negative ratings every time I tell someone they should spay or neuter their pet.

Answer one, answer all, I would appreciate it. Obviously I just don't understand people.

My female Portuguese Water Dog was going to be used for breeding, but she seemed to be in heat constantly. We didn't know if she had hormonal issues or what, so we just fixed her. I would like to know if this problem has ever happened to anyone else and if we did the right thing by fixing her. She is the love of my life and I just want to make sure that she is happy and healthy!

I've been surprised recently to see wolf hybrids listed as targeted in breed-specific legislation. I guess I never thought of wolf-hybrids as a "breed." That's fine, since APBT mixes are also targeted sometimes and that's not a breed. But wolf hybrids are not even dogs.

Only one half of them is even domesticated. Wouldn't laws for wolf-hybrids fall under exotic animals?

Those of you who are against BSL, are you also against specific laws for wolves and/or wolf hybrids?

We adopted Bella, a corgi mix, 4 yrs ago. She was 6 weeks old when we got her, and she has been great.
Back in June we decided to adopt another puppy, Zoey. She is a beagle corgi mix. They we ok at first but then Zoey started jumping on Bella. Bella knew she was a puppy and let it go.
Now 5 months later, they have full out fights all the time. Zoey is a little bigger than Bella and still jumps on top of her and bites her.
For the past 5 months we have been trying to get them to get along, trying training method after training method. Nothing has worked. We have to kept them separated. We want to be able to have them both out in the house or in the backyard at the same time but they just don't get along.
We love them both and don't want to give Zoey up. We called the rescue and the lady was really mean and was saying that if we couldn't take care of her why did we get her?
Zoey is completely up to date on all of her shots and isn't yet spayed because she is just a little bit too young. We really love her and if we have to give her away we want to make sure that she is in a loving home and is being taken care of.
We can't live with two dogs that don't get along. We just don't know what to do.... Please help us or head us in the right direction.
If you know of any inexpensive trainers in the Albany, NY area who can help please let us know.
Thank You in advance.

shes 8 (which is old for her large breed) and in the past few months ive noticed her coat condition drop and you can feel her bones on her head and back.

what foods can i add to her biscuit mix to help her gain weight? and will feeding her in the morning and a night be better than just feeding one large meal a day?

i dont want to buy any fancy food just household stuff i can add (like meat dairy etc) anything like that work?

oh and btw she has all her teeth so its not that she cant chew, and she eats almost all her biscuits every night

I read somewhere that they open their eyes within a week, but I think the author failed to include that it varies with different breeds. I'm kinda worried.
