Hmmm - check your vocab - if he needed it and didn't have it - he couldn't live. Remember - needs and wants are two totally different things. We need food, we need shelter, we need water. That's about all a dog really "needs". Now - to have a healthy well balanced person there are other "needs" but not just if you are talking about survival. Same with dogs.
There isnt' anything that a dog NEEDS that doesn't exist or hasn't been created yet. I would reconsider your science project.
Come up with a hypothesis.
Come up with an experiment to test your hypothesis (you can't test a hypothesis on does a dog need this or that - becuase what - are you going to take something away from a dog and see if it dies??!!)
Record your results
See if it verfies your hypothesis
Write a conclusion

I wasn't going to answer, but when I saw Pom's answer I had to respond.
There was actually a car--I think it may have just been a prototype--made in Japan that was specifically for dog owners. There were all these features. Don't remember them all. There was some sort of crate place in the middle (between the two front seats).
It seemed a little silly to me, but it was kinda fun.
ADD: The Japanese made a bark translator, too. There really does seem to be nothing out there that hasn't been made already for dogs: http://www.petgadgets.com/product_details.cfm?product_id=101&content_id=18

I would love it if a major car maker would create a vehichle that had safety restraints for dogs built in the car. Such as dog seat belts and crate holders....
I know you can buy seat belt things that you can put in the car but, I want a vehichle that is just for a dog person with all the necessities for dog people.
Has built in crates and a built in dog washing station.... Sort of like a motor home built primarily for the traveling dog show person.
When I travel I take a lot of equipment and I want to feel like my dogs are safe while traveling. At this point, I don't feel safe with my dogs in the car even if they are in a crate.
Add on: Cleoppa, that is pretty neat. I think that is very cool!!!!
I am sure that any rv or any conversion van could be customized but, very a VERY HIGH price tag of course.
Thanks for sharing Cleoppa, that is awesome! :)

i always thought for people who live in a really cold place Or for dog owners with not a lot of yard or space it would be cool to pay an admission fee for an indoor dog arena with running space and play areas so they could get it out of their system... the person could pay like five dollars to let their dog play and run and they could even have a doggie cafe with dog bones and gifts and such... i havent seen any thing like this yet( only with the exception of out door dog parks but nothing indoors)
if it has been done where are they in illinois>>? cause i want to get a dog and take them there!!!thanks!

Hahaha--
Dogs need:
Agility equipment that is less expensive for the owners to purchase!
I am in the middle of purchasing all new agility equipment for my dogs and my classes, and I forgot how freaking expensive it is. Some of my equipment is many years old now and must be replaced, and I cannot believe the prices.
So, yes, we need more producers of agility equipment so it can all be sold at lower prices. That would help.

I work at Petco and have a puppy. One thing that I haven't seen made is something the can stop a dog from going under the bed. Kinda like a baby gate, but short and long to block a dog from going under the bed. I haven't seen anything like that at any pet store. Other people have asked for a similar product and can't find one either. A dog doesn't really "need" it, but I sure do!

Dogs need love, attention, food, shelter and training. Sorry - It's all been done.
Edit - Cristelle - That's called a doggie-day-care and it's been done too....

You can't create it, but you can give it, a big dog play house, where you can drop your dog and it will have is NATURAL freedom. I am sure he will like it!
