She is 9 years old and started doing this about 2 years ago. I am trying to find ways to get her to stop. Is there something you can put in her food?

Stuff called Forbid, put in the food should stop her. It is generally a bad habit which is hard to stop but it can also be the sign of a lack of important nutrients in her diet. It would be worth mentioning to the vet at her next visit.

Yes there are things that you can do to help eliminate this 'icky' but very common problem. It's unusual for a dog to start this behavior in adult hood, it's normally a more puppy type thing. It would be a good idea to have the veterinarian check her over just to make sure there's no underlying medical condition. Also consider whether there have been recent changes to her environment or routine that could be making her anxious and trigger this kind of behavior.

Whatever the reason, the first line of defense is to pick up the poop asap. so she physically can't get to it. You could try pouring hot sauce or something similar on the stools, but it's as easy to pick it up.

You can add one of several different things to her food that will make the stool taste bitter and nasty so that it's not so appetizing to her.

Have a dog that does the same. Some say put Cayenne pepper on the feces. Or try "forbid" at the pet store. Nothing worked for my dog expect picking up the poop. It is very common for dogs to do this and it does not signal any health problems...

Put some kind of spicy pepper on her poop. It doesn't really do anything to their health though. My dogs do it and they're just fine!!!!
Hope I could help and good luck.

Give her a few pineapples because they make her poop acidic and she'll never eat them again. Hope this helps!
