I have three dogs and I haven't seen a flea for years. That is because I use Frontline Plus. You need to check with a vet about this. Don't buy cheaper versions; they are not the same. Frontline Plus can be used for fleas once every three months. If there are ticks out, Frontline will also keep them off your dog, but only if used once a month. (Believe me if you saw one flea, there are a zillion more.) Flea collars and flea shampoos are primitive ways of addressing the flea problem. I consider them a waste of money. Fleas and ticks are a danger to humans too, especially if your dog cuddles in you lap or next to you in bed. While you may at first think quality Frontline Plus is expensive, in the long run it is a good investment compared to repeated and only partially effective applications of flea collars and flea shampoos. Also ask your vet about Heartgard. A monthly dose will protect your dog from parvo virus and many kinds of worms (except for tape worms, which are ingested from fleas). Again, don't go for cheap imitations. (No, I am not getting "kickbacks" for these endorsements.) I'm assuming that you already know about rabies and other routine vaccinations. Every dog needs to always wear a rabies tag, license tag, and ID tag. I'm glad you are concerned about protecting your pup's health. May you have many years of delightful companionship with him/her!

Flea collars don't work! They only chase fleas away from the neck area, which is no good at all, they just hide everywhere else on the dog! Please remove it because they often cause hair loss, if not worse.
Flea shampoos are also useless, don't bother. All they do is wash fleas off, the dog will be reinfested before the day is out. Please get a proper treatment from a vets, like Frontline or Revolution. You can't expect any flea treatment you buy in a store to work.

Take the flea collar off...not only are they not effective, but they are harmful. Try to give as few flea baths as possible...put your dog on Frontline and feed him brewer's yeast with his food (helps prevent fleas). After that you may see a flea or two on him but it won't be an infestation. As a pet owner, I would be VERY cautious about putting too many chemicals on my dog (flea baths, collars, non-prescription grocery store flea treatments). You don't need to be bathing your dog regularly at ALL, maybe once every few months. If he's dirty before then, just use water, or if necessary, a LITTLE shampoo (dog shampoo, best if it has oatmeal in it). Dogs do not have the same reactions to chemicals that humans do.

take the collar off it doesnt work go buy frontline or advantage put it in between his shoulder blades it works inabout 12 hrs. all the flea collar does is make them smell like pesticides- gross! flea shampoo may b too strong for a 6 mon pup too strong for the skin also pay attention where ur pup is hangin around if ur place is clean & ur picking up his poop right away then he's getting the fleas from another source other than his own close environment. fleas r more easily spotted around the crotch area cuz the skin is lighter & there normally is less hair in that area. gd luck

STOP!
Those products have chemicals in them, overuse can KILL your dog!
Take off the flea collar. Do not use flea shampoo. Get tea tree oil shampoo from your pet store, it naturally repels fleas and is gentle on the dog's skin. Avoid using flea products at all costs, they are more dangerous than they are worth. And flea collars are the worst of all, NEVER use one!!

I wouldn't use a flea collar on your puppy. Besides flea collars are pretty ineffective flea control as well as shampoos. I would try Advantix. Its a once a month topical application that kills and repels fleas.

Best to stay clear of flea collars, personally i find them close to useless. You need to apply a product monthly such as advantage. These spot on products work really well and you don't have to leave something on your dog constantly, it is just a case of applying a solution once a month between their shoulder blades and no more fleas.
Also to help eliminate fleas make sure that you thoroughly wash the area where the dog sleeps and plays. If you don't your dog is likely to get them again.
Good Luck!

well he really is too younge for a flea collar, or a flea bath. anything over the counter should be used on dogs 12 weeks and older. vet stuff ( advantage, frontline) is 8 weeks and older. if anything i would just bathe your dog in Dawn dishsoap, that will drench and kill the fleas that are on him. bomb your house will a flea bomb. that should do it for a about 2 weeks and then id use advantage for a preventative treatment, and frontline plus for killing off fleas....

I prefer a medication. We use advantage at the first sign of fleas, a lot of people say it doesnt work well for their dog but it does work well for mine.
Bathing a dog often is not good for their skin as it dries them out and makes them itchy. I would bathe him no more than once every 2 weeks.

We always use Frontline for our dog and cat. You apply once a month or two (as directed) to back of neck and it keeps fleas at bay like no other treatment.
If the dog gets fleas in between applications he has a flea shampoo bath abd again just b4 we reapply frontline.
