My dog has been scratching with his teeth around his back at the base of his tail recently. I have tried anti-itch shampoo and he doesn't seem to have fleas. Any ideas on how I can alleviate this? Thanks

How can I completely get rid of my dog's (and cat's) fleas? I've tried quite a few of the spot treatment fleas, and those made my dog sick for days, and I've heard the chemicals can cause harm anyways.. Flea shampoo don't work at all. Mostly looking for a natural way to get rid of them.

She is urinating and her bowel movements are normal. Sometimes when she does throw up there is a some of her food in it. She is still active, playful, and is acting like normal.
What could it be?

I think they should have never gotten a dog. cause the first one they had, was outside come sun shine come winter. None of them including their three kids every played with Susi. Now they have a new puppy almost a year old. They all work, the kids are in school during the day. They have an out side dog run. But they lock her up in one tiny room all day long. I have never seen them feeding the dog. Is this called animal abuse? Should I call the Animal control people? It's bucking me cause she is an adorable dog! and none of them does anything with her.

i have a small breed dog (20lb range) who comes to work with us in an office environment......for the last 3 days he has been going around the office licking the baseboards and crevices of our desks/printers/file cabinets, our air conditioning vent, basically anything with any dust on it....when i take him outside he licks the crevices of our concrete steps and during this he periodically sneezes and coughs.....can anyone think of why he would do this?.....one thing that i can think of that could possibly be it (but i dont know why he would do it outside) is our cleaning lady just started using carpet fresh type powder on the floors last friday and i'm thinking that it could be settling in the crevices where she cant get to it to vacuum and he is licking this up.....might this be it and if so is it a danger to him?

The 'man' had his medium sized dog on a retractable leash, I saw the dog lying on the ground....it got up and walked away from him and he yanked that dog bak so hard I thought he broke his neck. We heard the dog scream inside our apt. Then he picked up the dog by the leash and carried the dog HANGING until he got to his apt.I'm SO PISSED!!! I found out where he lives and I called animal control..."WE CAN'T DO NOTHING!" Guess its not like on TV!! I have to file charges against this man myself which I'm in the process of doing. The worse he can do to me is slash my tires and that will hurt because I can't even afford insurance, but I WILL NOT LET THIS GO UNPUNISHED! Where are the ppl that are supposed to do something about animal abuse???

I have tried all the name brand stuff, and it doesnt seem to be working. I give them baths with flea shampoo and nothing. I have been using the powders and sprays, and the drops on both my cats and my dog. They are getting worse to where they are losing thier hair. If you have any solutions I would be thankful for something that works...... Thanks

OK, I have 2 shihtzus, they love to go to the park and chase A BALL, but it seems to have to have these "qualifications" a squeaky in it, FITS INTO THEIR MOUTH ONLY SO THEY OTHER CAN'T GRAB IT OUT, and it has to be durable. So far, every time I but something like this, when I can find the right size, the squeaky breaks. They are very picky about that it fits into their mouth and nothing hangs out so the other can't grab it when they are running back to me with it. This may sound like a silly question, but I live on pennies and I have spend about $15 on dog toys in the last month and need to find one that lasts forever. The smaller tennis ball works but if it doesn't squeak, they just tend to ignore it, I think they like to squeak it when they get it to show the other one like " "ha ha, I have it " and it helps me too in the big soccer field where we play. Any suggestions ? thanks Wendy

We take her outside all the time and we also have the pads that you put on the floor inside the house just in case. Well she uses the bathroom everywhere but there. Sometimes she will be outside forever and once we get her inside she uses the bathroom. This is my first puppy and my patients is wearing thin. I don't know what to do...........

We are lucky enough to be getting a Weimaraner puppy. She will not be with us until November.

We are wanting to get her spayed as we will never be breeding her and know that it would be bettter for her general health to do this.

Couple of questions:-

1. How old should she be before we have it done?
2. How much approx would it cost (Manchester, UK).
3. Do you think we should get her microchipped?
4. How long does it take for them to recover after they have been spayed?
5. We are crate training her and want a crate with a divider in so that it will be small whilst she is small and bigger when she grows up. Anybody know where we can get one at a reasonable price?
6. What toys would you suggest - I have heard that Kong dog toys are really good and wonder if anybody has ever used these with their dog.

Many thanks in anticipation for your help.

My pup has an appointment in 20mins with our local vet. I'm just worried sick about her...I didn't sleep well either, checking on her, tossing, turning, making her comfortable....
About 4-5 days ago, she stopped eating, won't drink (have to use a dropper with pedialyte).....she is extremely needy (must be held), draws her hind legs up, (belly ache)....We have never had a boxer before. She's nearly 8weeks now. Provided her supplemental milk when she came ill, have given her rice, and she did take to it well. She's run a fever and is completely lethargic and salavating.....None of our other animals are ill. She's had her first worming. She was due to have her first shots this Saturday, since coming ill, we must postpone. Do any of these symptoms appear to be consistant with something major (parvo, bowl/intestin obstruction)? She had diarrhea for the first time yesterday. She has a metallic smell to her, like "steel." Very very worried mom. Any help??

I have a king charles cavalier that is 10 months old. I took her camping for 3 days to stradbroke island last week and since returning her demeaner has changed. She used to be really excitable and jumped around like an idiot when i got home, now she is quieter and still happy to see me but walks not runs when i get home. her apetite doesn't seem to be as good. she's not chewing all my things anymore. its just like she is tired and gets puffed more easily.Has she just outgrown her puppy exuberance or is something wrong? there is no physical evidence except 4-5 days ago she was running around and kicking her legs then it was just like she fell asleep and fell over sideways and froze until I made eyecontact. She didn't lay down it was like tipping a cow over while its asleep. Am i being paranoid? could it be heartworm? what are the symptoms? I give her heartworm tablets once a month but I may have forgotten 1 or 2 months.
