I have a king charles cavalier that is 10 months old. I took her camping for 3 days to stradbroke island last week and since returning her demeaner has changed. She used to be really excitable and jumped around like an idiot when i got home, now she is quieter and still happy to see me but walks not runs when i get home. her apetite doesn't seem to be as good. she's not chewing all my things anymore. its just like she is tired and gets puffed more easily.Has she just outgrown her puppy exuberance or is something wrong? there is no physical evidence except 4-5 days ago she was running around and kicking her legs then it was just like she fell asleep and fell over sideways and froze until I made eyecontact. She didn't lay down it was like tipping a cow over while its asleep. Am i being paranoid? could it be heartworm? what are the symptoms? I give her heartworm tablets once a month but I may have forgotten 1 or 2 months.

its no good explaining the symptoms of heart worm as many perfectly healthy dogs that are well in them selves have heart worm,

The fact that you took her to Straddie is perhaps a concern. Take her to the vet straightaway. You cannot be too careful, especially with such a drastic behaviour change. Falling over is a puppy thing - they are so floppy! But the other symptoms - going off her food, not wanting to play, getting tired - are a worry. She could have been bitten by something or could have eaten something that needs attention. Better safe than sorry. Take her to the vet! By the way, you MUST keep her heartworm tablets up to date, particularly if you live in an area known for mozzies, etc. We don't, and I still give my dogs their heartworm religiously. Again, better safe than sorry.
I hope she gets better really soon!!!

I would take her to the vet. You are not being paranoid especially with the whole cow tipping description. There's no way your dog went from that kind of exuberance to that lethargic. Does not happen. Heartworms are equal to pain she would not be lethargic she would be squeling or whining in pain. You are in Australia so theres no way I can tell you what kind of things are prevalent in your area for dogs.

What's puffed? and puffed more easily? like swollen? Did anything in your mind happen on that trip that raises a flag? There's no way she grew out of the puppy exuberance in a week.

You need to take her to the vets and tell them what happened ..........they way you described how she fell is not normal.
You are not being paranoid, she needs to be seen to by a vet.

If you keep "forgetting" to give her the heartworm tablet, then you should consider giving her the once a year needle when she has her booster instead. Otherwise you should mark it on your calander so you dont forget.

It could be a lot of things, but basically, she needs to go to the vet. She may have ticks or other parasites or she may have gotten into something (trash, plants, whatever) that isn't good for her.

Oh dear I'm awfully sorry I know how it feels to be worried about your pet...It might not be that she's sick...she might actually be growing out of her puppy stage as you've mentioned....I don't advice you give her anymore pills...take her to see a vet...they'll know exactly what's wrong with her.

Take Care and hope she gets better. ~peace~
