He growls when we pick him up or are about to pick him up, the previous owner warned us about this. Are there any ways to help calm it down or is this just how chi's are?

I always thought the food I fed my dogs was of decent quality, but I checked out www.dogfoodanalysis.com someone had posted. Turns out my dogs' food is only one star. :(

Where do you buy your top-quality food? (I noticed Innova and Canidae are popular choices...so food like that.)

If the food is not specifically marked for "large breeds," is there anything in particular on the ingredient list that large breeds really need or something I need to steer clear of?

I also noticed many of the good foods had garlic on their ingredient list...is this not a concern?

Finally, can you just give me a price estimate for how much you pay for your good food...you don't have to tell me the specific brand. (ex. $30 for a 40lb. bag)

Sorry...lots of questions...enlighten me!

I'm still wondering if you anyone can tell me how soon my dog will start to have her puppies.I just brought her in side so that she would have a nice place to have the puppies.I have noticed that she does have milk and also she was digging a hole..But since I have brought her in the house she will not lay for very long she keeps walking around. But then if I would take her out side she seems to be fine.

i have two dogs a terrier mix and a rottweiler german shepard mix about a week ago i was walking to hs with my friend and i seen this little black puppy about the size of a chihuahua and i felt so bad for it because it was just a little puppy and walking on the sidewalk without a collar so i assumed no one owned him/her i was gonna grab the puppy and walk back to my house but i had no time and my house is like 15 minutes away from the hs and i was like a block away from my school. i felt bad all day knowing i couldve gave the puppy a good home even though i already i have a dog and a puppy. about two days later i had seen the same puppy in the park and he was with a family im postive it was the same black puppy i had seen before i was relieved that someone had given him/her a home but at the same time a little angry cause that puppy couldve been mine oh well im weird like that i always want another dog dont get me wrong i love my dogs.,how many dogs do u have,do u want more?

Our 1 year old daughter just loves animals, and so we are looking to buy a child friendly dog. We are leaning towards a Yorkshire Terrier... but I've been hesitant because my friend had a yorkie that used to nip at everybody who crossed her path... is this typical of a yorkie or was it just this particular dog? What are some other child-friendly breeds we could consider?

I have a 10 month year old female cocker spaniel and she is gettinf desexed today and we dropped her off at the vet at 9 and I am just really worried about her, one of my mums dogs died when they got him desexed because he had a weak heart, what are the chances something could happen to my dog? I just can't stop worrying and crying and she has never been alone or away from our other dog and I am also worried that she might be mad at us for leaving her. Also afterwards will she eat and drink much? I know I am being some wuss but I just have a really strong feeling that something might happen to her and I am just worried sick and every where I go I just see a toy of her or something, I tried gardening for a bit seeming I am home alone but I just couldn't stop thinking how she was yesterday trying to eat the shovel.

I comb my puppy's hair once a day and I yesterday I noticed some little brown bugs in the comb.
They do not look like what I think of when I think of a flea. (Way smaller, jumping, black bugs)
I gave him a bad wth a flea and tick shampoo anyway last night (HARTZ). I combed him after blowdrying and didn't notice any in the comb. I then washed all the sheets that he may have been laying on and his doggy bed in the washing machine.
Tonight, I combed him again and I see the bugs again. The same bugs are back, or maybe they never went away. Any idea what these are?
I have pictures. You may need to zoom in if possible.

I was wondering how I would go about getting rid of flea's. What products would you recommend me getting to fully remove fleas from my home. How much of each product should I look into getting; with 2 labs and a yorkie. I also have 2 ferrets that I believe have a few fleas now as well.

Just want input on this ingredients of this brand of dog food, im not trying to feed my best friend old yeller, or ol' roy. these ingredients sound exceptional compared to old yeller & ol roy's first ingredients being corn.

Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, white rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), oatmeal, beet pulp, egg product, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, fish meal, potassium chloride, choline chloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

this is priced at $20 for 35 or 40lbs, still a cheaper food but not as cheap as t 9.99 for old yeller 50lbs

I bought a good flea shampoo for her and I have given her a couple baths with the shampoo. I know it's working because there were a lot of dead fleas in the bath water as I washed her each time. but, she is still itching a lot.

My first instinct was to give her more flea baths but I know that can apparently damage the dog's skin am I right? or should I bathe her more until they are gone?

I took care of making sure there aren't fleas in my carpets.

Somebody told me that Oprah had a show about home security a couple years ago. The security expert said that small dogs are the best watchdogs and most burglars steer clear of houses with small dogs. WHy? I think I know why.

Must be a certain color. Older than 6 months is too old. 5 lbs max. Why have these Hollywood PopTarts turned dogs into accessories and what in holy hell can be done about it?

PS: I think both Paris and Brit should be spayed, BTW- Brit's recent behavior in ALLOWING her schizo ex-husband to win her kids just proves it....

But back to the question. How can we stop the influence of these people on the pet world?

Need tips that worked for you in retraining. This is the 2nd dog I rescued from pound as abused. With 1st, it took time but I won it over by entering its world until it realized I wasn't going to beat. New one is tougher case, standard poodle, seems to have given up on every thing and every one, just lies under kitchen table, will go get food and water in kitchen but not much. Have tried same strategies, hasn't worked. If you've tried and worked, I'd like to know how to get this dog to do as well as the 1st. Presence of 1st doesn't seem to matter.
