I have a 10 month year old female cocker spaniel and she is gettinf desexed today and we dropped her off at the vet at 9 and I am just really worried about her, one of my mums dogs died when they got him desexed because he had a weak heart, what are the chances something could happen to my dog? I just can't stop worrying and crying and she has never been alone or away from our other dog and I am also worried that she might be mad at us for leaving her. Also afterwards will she eat and drink much? I know I am being some wuss but I just have a really strong feeling that something might happen to her and I am just worried sick and every where I go I just see a toy of her or something, I tried gardening for a bit seeming I am home alone but I just couldn't stop thinking how she was yesterday trying to eat the shovel.

I'm sure that everything will be fine. Someone at your vet's office should have went over everything with you. I work for a veterinarian, and we do spays/neuters everyday! Most veterinarians require pre anesthetic bloodwork, and also some other preventative measures. Where I work, we perform bloodwork as well as an EKG to check the electrical function of the heart. That way if anything obvious is there, the surgury won't be performed. Every vet has their own way of screening before surgery, and I'm sure yours does a great job. They can sometimes be sleepy after anesthesia, just like people, but usually they are up eating fine, and acting like nothing ever happened. Now as far as your moms dog, sometimes pets have conditions that are undetectable, and that's usually rare, but it happens and as I'm sure you're aware of, there is always a risk of anesthesia involved in any case, and that's including human medicine. I'm sure that she's doing just fine, and sleeping well through the night. Most of our patients go home and act like wild children, and their owners can't keep them calm and confined like they're supposed to after surgery. Hope that this eases your mind a little.

Don't worry about it. You are doing the best thing for the dog and her overall health. For an experienced vet, it is very routine surgery, and shouldn't be a problem. She will be groggy when she comes home, give her about 1/2 of what she would normally have to eat. Let her have water, because she will be thirsty. Keep her quiet as you can for about a week, and she'll be fine. Don't worry hon, she will be fine.

if your mom dog died at a vet after being neuter that was the vet fault because they should have done blood work first to see if they can put the dog under, your dog will be fine i work at a vet and 200 dogs come everyday to get spayed and neuter your acutually giving them a healthy life it prevents them from cancer and many other infecsions

Don't be so worried. The surgery is done thousands of times each day and it is rare for a bad outcome. You're doing the best thing by getting her spayed, and she'll be fine.
