I have one and I just put one to sleep on Sunday. I do want more but i'm about to have a child and its way to early for us to get another one. I think we'll wait til we move to a house and until the little one grows a little bit older. Look at it this way tho about the dog at least he's happy now with a family and not living on the streets alone.

Currently, I have none. When I rescue, I generally take the 2 who are companions that are old and no one wants. Dumped as "strays." Blind and can't walk - but they ran away from home? Right. It is hard for me because they only live about 6 - 9 months by the time I get them... Everyone of them has been sweet as hell. A real blessing to my life. I love them a lifetime in the amount of time I get with them and I know I have made a difference in their lives. They do in mine as well. In profound ways that can not be explained. [PS I am not allowed any pets in my apartment. I have to sneak them in/out. A laundry basket with bobbing clothing... Quite funny, but not if I am caught] I have a cat that I've had for 4 1/2 years and she is great. I think the limit is 3 pets for most communities. But a homeowners association can set the limit on allowable "pets" which may also include fish as a "pet." Thankfully, your little dog found a home. Things work out as they should sometimes. Keep an open and compassionate heart. That is rare in this cruel, cold world. God bless.

Well, I own one dog at the moment. I own a 10 month old American Pit Bull Terrier, and he is my big baby. I would love to have more, but right now I just can't. My house is too small for another dog. I also have a cat, and my dog and cat are best friends. At least the little black puppy found a good home where he/she will get the love he/she deserves.

My husband and I have 3 labs. We started with one puppy (yellow lab), 2 weeks later got his brother(chocolate lab/pointer mix), and about a year later got their sister from save a pet (black lab mixed with s/thing) so now we have one of every color!!. And yes, we would take another. We are weak! We have a big back yard and they can play out there, but they are mostly inside and spoiled rotten.
I understand how you feel, and I have to resist the urge to even think about another dog right now. I just keep reminding myself about the expense of having a puppy, not to mention the extra expenses of adding a fourth dog to our family! And I love all three of our dogs too.
Just be happy that the puppy you saw has a good home now, and nothing bad happened to it. And remember that you are still living at home and your parents may not want to have another dog right now.

I have 2 Great Danes, and as much as I love dogs, they are plently enough anyone. Anni is almost 2 and weighs over 150lbs. Brodie (my lil man) who isn't so little either just turned 1 and weighs almost 200lbs. At first I was concerned about how much they eat, and they do eat A LOT, (between the two of them) over 50lbs a week in dog food, poop becomes your main concern! That's A LOT of poop to clean up! =) I love my babies, and wouldn't trade them for the world. But, I also don't think I could physically handle a third.

You know dogs do slip their collars and get lost.
Just picking up the puppy and keepmg it would not have been very responsible. Picking the puppy up and posting fliers would have been. If after a certain time no one claimed the dog then you could keep it.

I have one, female shepherd mix from a shelter and spayed. I just adopted a kitten, but I would love to get a male shepherd. But I need to get the kitty settled first (spayed) and make sure I can afford to adopt another dog. I keep looking, there are so many that need homes, it breaks my heart knowing they're not in a nice home with a yard and a nice soft bed.

That sounded greedy, be careful not to become an horder. They can be worse than an abuser.
I have one dog a JRT who is enough dog for 5 or more.
Love Dogs, but usually only have one at a time.

I have one dog, and I'm perfectly happy with her. She is a chihuahua/terrier mix, and gets really over-excited. The only problem is she begs horribly and runs off all the time if she isn't on a lead. lol :-) nah, I don't want anymore.

i know alot of people that have 3 or 4 dogs, but i like only having 1 or 2. i had a hot dog that had to be put down about 6 months ago.she was 20. believe it or not. that left me with my basset hound . i would like to have another , but my basset likes being the only dog. (i can tell) but i think its all in what you want and what you can handle.
