Merrick is one of the best foods there is.Good veggies are carrots(raw or cooked),spinach, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, beets,(all cooked.) Fruits~ apples ( no seeds) blueberries, cranberries,Meat is good, cooked or raw beef or lamb, chicken necks and backs ( raw only) fish, venison, liver.Other foods you can add as a supplement are yogurt, cottage cheese and eggs.I wouldn't add vitamins, but fish oil is great, and Cosequin is good for any breed that's prone to joint problems.Ask your vet about the proper dosage for your dogs weight.

If you are feeding an all in one good quality dry food there is no need to add supplements of any kind as the food is scientifically formulated to give your dog all the nutrients it needs for growth and bone.

By adding other things you can upset the balance.

My Goldens like slices of apple or a carrot as a treat now and again.

If you are in the States I believe Canidae is an excellent food.

Mine have Wafcol Salmon & Potato and they never get tired of it.

You can add a teaspoonful of either Evening Primrose Oil or Salmon Oil to his food. This is very good for his coat and prevents dryness.

Good luck.

I feed my golden's all 3 of them Canidae all life stages. You dont need to add vegies and any supplement at all if the food is balanced.
Especially with Golden who tend to have food allergies I would not add anything to his diet at all. Raw carrots are fine for a snack, blueberries too some apple slices no peel or seeds is also fine for a snack.
Supplements unless your vet told you to give then should be avoided with Goldens.

If your not happy with the Merric than look at the Canidae. My goldens are doing beautifully with this food and their coats are very health and they are happy too.
