i can't name 5 for you but i have 3 great danes and they are wonderful. I wouldn't want any other dog. They are great around kids i have two younger sisters and they pull on the dogs ears jump on their backs and the dogs could care less. The only thing is that once you start petting them they won't go away. They love attention.

To be completely honest with you... the friendliest I've ever had (and I've had quite a few) are my rottweilers.
As a whole, the breed is sweet, loyal, and loving. (beware of the bad seeds, though.) And by bad seeds, I mean the bad owners who train them to be meaner.
My jack russell/rat terrier mix was a sweetheart, as was the black lab mix I had from the humane society.
I would say that if you raise any dog to be sweet and friendly (socialize often and from a young age) almost any dog can be "the friendliest".

Brussels Griffons!!!!! Great little terriers, VERY friendly, VERY affectionate. I know about 20 of these dogs and own 2 myself, they are always sweet, loyal, and loving. They are super smart and not as stubborn and high strung as most terrier breeds.
I'm a bit biased but of all the dog breeds I have owned these are the friendliest.
My friend has a cocker-bichon, she's a real sweetie too.
my other 3
Havanese
Keeshound
spaniels

I don't think there is a friendly breed it all depends on the dog in question, as all are different. Every breed has mostly great friendly dogs but they also have a small element of unfriendly ones. But if I have to choose then its,
Old English Sheepdogs,
Bearded Collies,
Lowland Sheepdogs,
Irish Wolfhounds,
Newfies.

Dalmatian - although people who haven't owned a well-bred, well-socialized Dalmatian won't know this.
Great Dane
Newfoundland
Airedale Terrier - extremely gentle, loyal and friendly, even towards strangers.
Border Collie

I can't give 5 breeds because I haven't had enough experience with that many, but I HIGHLY recommend Huskies. I own one and the love and friendship that he expresses is amazing. We have friends with them as well and all of them are gorgeous in their temperaments. I have never come across a breed that is so expressive in their feelings for you. I wish you could meet my dog.

Mmm, from experience I can discount two of my breeds, Weimaraners and Rhodesian Ridgebacks which are known to be a bit aloof with strangers.
From experience (owning the following) I would say;
Staffie
Springer Spaniel
From knowing people with these breeds I would say
Westie
Pug
And I can't think of anymore! lol
