Definitely go to the vet and get a prescription.
Also, you have to clean your house from top to bottom and vacuum every day until the fleas are gone. Once you're done vacuuming, empty the bag/canister and remove the trash from the house.

I just wanted to reiterate: don't use ANYTHING from a store, as it won't work. Stuff like Hartz, Zodiac and Bob Martin has also caused a lot of dog and cat deaths. Kills your pet but not the fleas is their slogan!!
Yup, get some Frontline, Advantage or Revolution from a vet, it works and is as safe as it gets. Losing hair is very probably a reaction to flea bites. Do get a spray for your house as well, from the vets. Recommend Skoosh, Acclaim, Staykil or Indorex. You might want to have a look at www.skooshthefleas.com

Absolutely, I have no idea what you mean by "name brand stuff", but
Frontline or Advantage work = completely if you make sure to put it on the back of the dog or cat's neck EVERY SINGLE MONTH.
I use it on all 6 of my dogs, have for years, and it does work.
Flea baths, sprays, collars, etc. are useless - fleas come right back.

I've just done a fair bit of research on fleas. I've written an article about them for my website that I recommend you have a look at. It's too long to include all of the information here.
Here is the page: http://www.australian-shepherd-lovers.com/fleas.html
They can be extremely difficult to get rid of and you need to take a multi-faceted approach. If any fleas are left alive anywhere in your house - or outside in your yard - your pets can be re-infested. Fleas reproduce very rapidly and if you don't catch them early on they can be difficult to get rid of.
Have a look at that article. It discusses the flea life cycle, symptoms of infestation (which you are already familiar with), flea allergy dematitis, infestation control and elimination, commercially available products, flea control medications and natural flea control remedies.
Feel free to email me if you have any questions.
Best of Luck

the original blue dawn dish liquid kills fleas on pets but does not repel. u need a flea repellent from vet. they can give u the best for Ur needs. also u can sprinkle food with garlic powder or give 1/2 tab per day. if the animals are losing there hair from scratching they may be allergic to flea bites. u can give them children's bendryl -1/4 teaspoon for small dogs and cats or 1/2 for large dogs. but u still need to spray flea killer on furniture and carpets let dry then vacuum. clean all bedding too. wash with bleach and hot water . if they are outside dogs sprinkle seven dust in area and u can also use on pet but i have never tryed on my pet so not sure if works.

Hi there
This year has been extremely bad for fleas were we live to.
I do use brewer yeast by sprinkling a little bit in there food ,garlic can work as well .But it sounds like you need stuff with a lot of power .And this means going to the vets and getting yourself some advantage not program . your vet will be able to explain why advantage is better than program ..It will cost ya because you will have to put everybody on it ,but in the long run everybody will feel better .good luck

you have to fumigate your house and then vacuum the carpets and edges of the walls as well as treat the pets with flea powder. wasning alone does not get rid of the fleas. Go to a reputable pert store they can sell you a spray for the house and flea shampoo or powder for your pets.

Go to your vet and get the proper flea control.. Avantage Multi or Revolution.. They seem to be the best products out there. They treat ticks, mange, fleas, heart worm, and all sorts of other parasites.

Feed them brewers yeast in thier morning feed every day. it will get into there blood stream and produce a smell that not only nutrilizes the dogs smell on them but the fleas despise it and go away. then you'll want to bomb your house, becuase they will still be there.
