How can I completely get rid of my dog's (and cat's) fleas? I've tried quite a few of the spot treatment fleas, and those made my dog sick for days, and I've heard the chemicals can cause harm anyways.. Flea shampoo don't work at all. Mostly looking for a natural way to get rid of them.

Tried Frontline&K-9 Advantix, made my dog sick. Wouldn't eat for 3-4 days, I'm not going to try that again. Dish soap? I'll try that. And I vacuum every day, no worries.. I live with 2 preschoolers, its mandatory.

I had a problem with fleas too, and what I am about to tell you will work....
Buy a box of 20 mule team borax..you find it the detergent isle of the grocery store. You can sprinkle it into carpet, and even on the dog. The borax in the detergent actully dries up the fleas and they die..within two weeks, I was completely flea free. I applied the borax about 4 times in the two week period. Good luck!

I have heard that garlic can repel fleas (search for some treat recipes that include garlic that you can make for your pets). You should also buy a flea comb and try to brush out the fleas on your pets (dip the flea comb in a bowl of warm soapy frequently as it help "catch" the fleas and will drown them). They also sell flea collars at places such as Petsmart or Petco that are made of natural ingredients and are not supposed to harm the animals. Last but not least, vacuum everything in your house for a couple of weeks. This picks up the eggs that the fleas lay but you will need to do it for a while even after you see the last flea as it can take a few days for the eggs to hatch (and cause another round of infestation). If none of this helps you may have to go to your vet and get some prescription flea medication for them. Good luck!

Joy dish soap kills fleas. Vacuum very good several times per week.
Then take the animal to the vet and get Frontline or Advantage for fleas and treat every month, so you won't have fleas again.

It's the store-bought treatments which are usually toxic i.e causing seizures and death. Veterinary products rarely cause any adverse reactions at all, I'd say you've just got a verrry senstitive dog! Just to check - you did buy these products actually from a vet didn't you - not online?

EDIT: Ah ha! Then you have to recognise the fact that what you bought online may not have been Frontline at all. Bogus products are out there, it happens a lot.

Frontline is one of the best leading Tick and Flea meds for dogs AND cats. There's also K-9 Advantix, but that's ONLY for dogs. Also there's a brand called Zodiac which is fairly good (not as good as Advantix and Frontline) but it should do the job.
As for a natural way, I'm not sure, sorry

First thing to do is to get rid of fleas in your house and yard. It might be very hard to do and the only sure way is to hire a reputable professional company to do it.
As for treatment of animals, Advantage medication works very well for my pets (no side effects,) but, again, it doesn't make sense to use it, if you have fleas all around the house.

Frontline for everyone. Use a flea comb. Wash and vacuum everything. If they are in your yard too, it must be treated. Fleas just want to jump on something living, so if your critters are in and out, you have to treat everything.

I have tried RID shamppo for lice it kills the fleas I took my dog a bath with it I had put her in the tub and when I took her a bath with it I could've see the fleas in the water good luck though
