I think it totally depends on the dog. Some dogs won't have it at all. My puppy has demodectic mange so she is loosing her hair so we bought her a football type hooded shirt and she loved it she trotted around differently almost like "I'm so pretty" but my mom's dogs won't let her put a bandanna on them. I almost bought my pup a hot dog costume at target because it would be hilarious but we are gonna stick with her Halloween bandanna. I don't see the problem with it as long as your dog is happy. That's the important part right? Having a happy dog?

If the dog does not mind it and it does not affect the dogs movement and activities, then I see no problem other than it being a bit silly. You just need to be conscious of it though, costumes are for the owners benefit and you need to remember to put the dogs need first. If there is any question about safety or comfort, it should not be used. ADD: Dogs don't get embarassed, some may love it because they get extra attention. The owners are the only one that could get embarssed for silly costumes, but the ones doing it don't care. As long as the dog doesn't mind and isn't contrcted, its no big deal. Unfortunately too many owners don't care about the dog and just want a cute little thing to play dress up with. The costumes are the least of their worries though. Some dogs don't have enough fur for the climates they live in and are actually better off with a doggy coat when brought outside (like a chihuahua living in maine in the middle of winter).

I think that it's very cute and I have even bough a costume to dress up my little Australian terrier dog up for Halloween in. However, I think that what goes from cute to ridiculous, as far as putting outfits on dogs is concerned, is putting clothes on dogs every day of the week. If the dog is small and doesn't have enough fur to keep it warm, then I think it's okay to put a sweater on a dog during the coldest days of the year, but beyond that, I think it's ridiculous.

I think they are cute as long as they don't put the dog in danger from trying to eat something off of the costume or getting overheated. I tried to dress my dog as a moose last Halloween and he was more interested in chewing the antlers off of the costume than wearing it. Needless to say, the costume did not last very long.

Depends entirely on the dog - some dogs hate any clothing and are miserable wearing costumes, other love the attention and petting they get for being cute.
I dress 3 of my 6 up, the other 3 just get cute collars.

While many people will create costumes for their dogs, I personally never would. A dog is not a human, they do not need clothes for comfort or warmth.
Many costumes, especially home made ones, forget that the dog already has a heavy coat, a tail, ears, things will need a space for. Halloween is often times still hotter weather and a dog, in a coat, will be just as hot.
I personally do not see the cuteness in it, as it is too unnatural for the dog.

I think my dog would hate me if I dressed her up, I tried to put an army bandanna on her once and she hid in the garden. I think it's cute for special occasions, but dressing a dog up every day is tutus and the like is just ridiculous.
I might put a ribbon on her collar for haloween, nothing too restrictive.

My personal preference is if the dog doesn't mind being put in clothes for an occasion, go for it. But it must not be restricting to it's movements. Otherwise stick to the manufacturer's basic coat for cold weather and let the animal be itself, born with it's own covering and able to use it's natural born abilities like walking in snow or puddles.
If you don't like the dirty feet, have a pan of water at the entrance with a towel or paper towels to rinse & dry before entering the house. My Dane used to go right to it after awhile before we went in the living room.

Yeah my french bulldog Emma, is going as a Peacock!
She has already had her picture taken and sent it out to her friends to enjoy. Dressing up your pet for halloween is just for fun anyway.

Yes I think it is just fine if the dog agrees it is fun. I don't have a dog but I sure would dress her up if I had one.
