Would you apply certain conditions to keeping the animal?

Two years ago, we had a "big black dog" in our yard out in the country. On approach, she growled at my husband. I sat on the step and she came right to me. We put an ad in the paper for a week and she went unclaimed. She was strictly an outside dog, always came when called, did lots of tricks (loves catching a frisbee), good w/ the kids and never barked in the house.

Then she went missing. By the grace of God, she was found both times. Both times, someone picked her up. She became an inside dog.

Here she sits, officially our dog, our baby. She's been awesome! She scares people away (intimidating to see a black lab mix barking at you) but if they were to put their hand out, she just might lick you or nudge you for a scratch.

In February, she gave birth to 10 pups ~ 9 went to good homes and we kept one. Three months later, she was spayed. The male we kept is on docket for neutering.

This past Friday, Roxy got a cut on her hind leg. Now she needs 2-3 sutures (stitches) to close the wound. The wound is pretty severe and it borders an artery. If I do not get the surgery, the artery may become infected. Although it is only stitches she will need to be sedated, hospitalized for half the day, and have blood work done before anesthesia. The entire cost for the 15 minute surgery has been estimated between $420 and $460. This estimate is from an animal hospital, where I also paid $49 just to have her examined. Our regular vet does not have any open time slots. This surgery cannot wait much longer but I also cannot afford it. I can pay up to $200 and I am willing to leave a $100 deposit up front. But nearly $500 I cannot afford! The hospital does not offer a payment plan other than deposit up front and pay in full at time of pick up. I have already called several other vets who charge about the same. What should I do?

My roomate got this dog and said it was a purebred Pomeranian. I don't know anything about dogs but I looked up a Pomeranian online and it looked nothing like this dog. Anyone know what it could be?

Why do so many people recommend Beneful when people ask for a good pet food?

now, the first ingredient is the main ingredient...then on down the line.

Also, Corn is EXTREMELY bad for dogs...

yet here is beneful's main ingredients

First ingredient... Ground yellow CORN,

That's the main ingredient!! Next is...

chicken by-product meal , CORN gluten meal, whole wheat flour, (FYI By product as in beaks, feathers, not actual meat)

oh how about these ingredients...

flour, sugar, sorbitol, tricalcium phosphate, water, salt, phosphoric acid,

or

added color (Yellow 5, Red 40, Yellow 6, Blue 2)

Meat doesn't even play a part in the main ingredients (other than animal digest)... why do people still feed/recommend Beneful as healthy?

why are people so up on Beneful and so down on Blue Buffalo whose main ingredients are...

Chicken, Chicken Meal, Whole Ground Brown Rice

or Innova whose main ingredients are Turkey, Chicken, Chicken meal, so on

explain?

I understand if she sold the dog to a bad owner or something, but it seems the people she gave it to weren't criminals or anything.

Does this dog exist... smaller size, not real barky, nippy, scared... good with kids and other animals, not a one owner type breed, not over energetic and not hard to housebreak. Hey, I like big dogs ( I have a Great Dane) but my man likes little ones and I'd like to do some research but am looking for people who love their small dogs and why!

I have 5 dogs
2 cats
2 rats
4 hamsters
About 45 mice in a manison doll house looking cage
2 Bunnies
3 Bulls
1 parrot

I have lots of animals most live in the heated and aircondtioned barn, Except for the parrot cats and dogs. I was wanting to get a barn dog to protect my pets from some coyotes that have been lurking around but i already have 5 dogs and was wondering if there is a legal limit on dogs. I mean we have plenty of room for him on our 8 acres. And weve been wanting to get some chickens but are afraid the coyotes will get into the barn at night. We were hoping to get a bernese mountain dog

We got a new GSH puppy last Wednesday - from a recommended breeder!

We took her to the vet on Friday night as she was very poorly (thankyou to you all that answered my question then and offered support).

Unfortunately Parvo has been diagnosed today! I really dont know how to feel, I am cross that I actually stuck up for the breeder when people were saying she couldnt be reputable! I am cross we have a sick puppy and I am cross she was sick when we got her.

She is very poorly dog but still alive after 5 days at the vets - so I hope she will be ok and recover?!

Please dont comment negatively - I am not the sort of person to take the decision about dog ownership lightly and I love all my pets dearly.

I want to ask if anybody has any information abour Parvo they can give me and also to let me know where I stand in terms of having a very sick puppy I paid a lot of money for and a huge vets bill, although ultimately I dont care about the money if it means she will be ok.

bad rap? They are the most feared dog of all dogs!

Is it because we don't have as many dog lovers as we think we do?

I bought a 6 pack of revolution flea and heartworm, not realizing how fast my puppy would grow. I have the 10 - 20lb pack and she is about 35 lbs. She is due today for her next dose but I won't be getting the next size up for another week or so. Can I give her two doses of the 10-20lb to give her enough to be affective or will that be too much/hurt her? Thanks.

My pekingese had puppies nine weeks ago and she still nurses them every now and again. The puppies eat solid food. Is this a comfort thing for the puppies and mom? Will this effect them when they have to eventually leave the nest?

My dogs have those microchips and I was just wondering what would happen if one of them wandered off or was taken. Would I be able to track them to an exact house or find them in the mountains? Does somebody come with you or do you buy a receiver or what? I was just thinking about it and wondering how they work.

If anybody out there has actually used the chip to find their dog then I'm sure you would have some great input for this question.
