i live in a 2 bedroom 1200 sq. ft apartment with a decent size patio. The patio is about 5 feet by 12 feet. I really love pits and want to get one in the 40-60 lb range. Do you think that leaving the dog in the patio 2-4 hours at a time would be damaging? He/she will be getting plenty of exercise at the park, probably 3-5 visits there a day, no less than 3. Would i be hurting the pit if it was to live in my home?

My female maltese is 8 mos old and going through heat. She drives my older dog, a 5 yr old male bichon frise, crazy. She jumps on his face and humps him. He sometimes tries to hump her too and they get very aggressive now with each other, and I'm beginning to find light bites and scratches on her skin when I leave them alone together. Also, she has been destroying everything in the house! I have an appointment to get her neutered in january, so until then, should I keep them seperate to keep them from fighting?

Just curious. I'm worried that he's like seriously sick. This has been going on for a week now. Should I take him to the vet? Or is there a home remedy that works? He's currently eating Nutro Natural Choice dry dog food. Have there been any recent recalls on that dog food?

I called my local vet and asked about having my dog put down. It's a long, sad story but it needs to be done. They want 200$ for sedative, exam, drugs, disposal is extra, but I am taking him home to be buried.

I've always been happy with this vet, they are very compassionate and knowledgeable but money is very stretched right now and they have a reputation for overcharging.

Is this the average?

We have two boxers, a male and a female. Our male is very well tempered and plays well with other dogs, he has never shown a sign of aggression. Our female on the other hand can turn very aggressive over nothing. She is aggressive to our male boxer at times and recently has turned aggressive to other dogs. Nothing in her environment has changed. From puppies I tried to let them interact with other dogs, she has never had a negative experience that I am aware of.
When we are walking, our dogs leashed of course, every once in a while there will be a dog around, even if it is not close to her, she starts growling, barking and showing her teeth. My male and her get along 98% of the time, and she goes from being very loving to him to agressive very quick. Infact, when we are on our walks and she sees another dog, she bites my other dog, and growls at him as well. He has never been physically hurt by her, but I worry why she is behaving in such a manner.

I'm concerned b/c I've been taking my 8 week puppy out on the grass the last three days. He's licked stuff off the grass too.
I just found out about Parvo (he's only had two shots). I live in a dog-friendly apartment complex = dogs everywhere.
What do I do??? If I train him in the parking lot, is there less risk for Parvo?

She is a 3 yrs old, and is 85 lbs. She HAS to be the alpha dog.

I am looking for a breed that is compatible with other dogs...Basically a breed to look for when I rescue a dog.

My dog has allergies, ie; dry flaky skin, ear problems yeast, lots of scratching at himself. What is a good brand and type of food I could give him that is not rediculously expensive. He is a 55 lb dog. Thank you

Hi, I have a question i recently adopted a year old male german shepherd and both of his parents are police dogs. I forgot to ask the owners if he was ofa cert but i lost the number. If a dog was a police dog does it have to be AKC AND OFA HIP CERT in order to become a police dog. I do NOT plan on breeding him but i am concerned about hip problems as he grows older

I had already paid for this puppy. I've been waiting for it since birth as me and my gf have wanted a puppy for so long. The mother was killed in an accident and the puppies are 5 weeks old. What should I do to properly nourish and socialize the puppy?

She was just at the vet this past week and got all her regular shots and tested negative for heartworm. The first few times she threw up it was apparent she has food in her, but after that it was just white foaming mucus. Dry heaving I suppose. What is going on? I called the vet and he said to see how she does tonight, and if she doesnt gocrazy, seizures or anything then to see how she is in the morning. If she is still throwing up then to bring her in. Any ideas?

Do you think fighting is in their blood or it's the owners fault if a pit bull becomes threatening? I'm one to think that if a dog has a nice home, then it'll turn out as a nice pet. But all things aside, with the reports out there...tell me you didn't feel the least bit nervous when you saw the pictures of the infants near the dogs.

Why is it ...
Why is it ok to shuttle your kids from house to house after a divorce? But when one of those kids wants to get a dog (with parent approval of course) we say "bad idea". That the dog would not adjust because of traveling with the child or because it would stay at one home and have seperation anxiety?? Since when do we care more about our dogs then our kids?
Why is it that tons of dogs seem to have happy healthy lives eventhough we don't have 5k set aside for the doggie emergency fun? Do those of us who love our dog find a way to deal?
And why is it that from this board it seems that no child should have a dog because someday they might go off to school? I don't get it.
I am all about responsible pet ownership but give me a break. Should we all quit our jobs and say home w/ the dog..or better yet ..hire nannies for them!
So maybe no woman should have a child unless she is capeable of being there 24/7 and already has all finances in order..for everything!! THOUGHTS??

My freind's dog has an upset stomach and she wanted to know if there's anything she can find at home or very cheap to buy at a store to help a dog's upset stomach. Or maybe some human medicine's that can help a dog, if there's any and/or safe.

Interesting topic that I came upon.

Do you think Ex-Fighting dogs can be "reformed" or "rehabilitated" and adopted out to regular homes or do you find it a lost cause and think for the dogs and the community, the dogs should be humanely euthanized?

We have been putting up with our neighbours dog for 12 months now. We have written non threatening letters, advising her of the situation and my husband introduced himself one day, during the course of the conversation he mentioned the dog. She immediately flew at thim with a barrage or foul launguage, got in her car and drove off. We do have a dog of our own that rarely barks, bout the only thing that gets him going is a thunder storm. Trouble is; We can't stand on our decking out back and talk as it hears us and just barks, if someone stops a car outside of our house it barks. It barks for everything and at everybody and can go for hours. Why can't people work with you to find a resoloution.... Why so defensive. What would you do.
