Why won't you use creams or lotions? I am assuming in that case you also do not use anything for ticks? If you are not buying things with chemicals because your are an environmental nut, then you can you can purchase products that work that use natural active agents. You need to use something, the ticks would be worse for the animals then the fleas and can also be very harmful to your pets and your own health. The fleas also would not be pleasant for them. Would you like to have headlice, scabies or fleas biting you all the time and have nothing done, of course not so do not make your pets put up with it they feel pain too. So the sooner you can fix this for them the better. To get rid of them completely you will need to use flea bombs in your house, otherwise they will just keep reinfesting everything, it costs about $10-12 from the supermarket for a pack of three mortein flea bombs, you can also buy spider bombs which also kill fleas at the same time. As for the flea treatments, for the cat you are best buying a product from the vet for about $35 (i am unsure of the name) but it treats everything for two or three months i think, ask about what is best for the dog while you are there although the dog products are very available at supermarkets and you can also get multi treatment products that are cheaper then cat products. Just make sure you do something for them or maybe consider having someone else care for them, if for any reason you are not able to. Good luck.

You're right, baths don't work - that's what I'm always trying to tell people on here!
Useful flea products can only be found at vets, and they come in the form of a variety of spot-ons - Frontline, Advantage, Revolution or Advocate. Spot-ons are liquids in a pipette than you apply to the skin on the back of your animal's neck. They kill all fleas within 24 hours and give continued protection for at least a month - two months in Frontline's case. Go and get some, you don't even need to take the dog to pick up Frontline.

No, of course baths don't work. Fleas can hold their breath longer than you can keep the animals under water. The only really effective way to get rid of them is to use a product like Frontline or Advantix that you purchase from your vet. Flea collars, sprays etc are no longer effective as fleas have developed resistance to them.

Go to the vet to get rid of the fleas on your animals. Then, as I'm sure he/she will recommend, keep them on flea/tic preventative monthly and year round. As far as your home, I would buy flea/tic foggers from the pet store. Once you have done this you should no longer have a flea problem. The key is to give your animals their medication EVERY month. Good Luck.

Sounds like you need to get some Advantage or Frontline, apply it to your animals and flea bomb your house to get them gone. Baths never work, nor do the cheap flea collars or generic (Bio Spot, etc) flea products you can buy at Walmarts and places like that.

Why don't you want to use typical flea treatments? My three dogs have never had problems with fleas because we use a lotion that is applied to the back of their necks every few months. Have you asked your vet for a recommended brand for prevention and treatment of flea infestations?
