You need to crate train these animals. You don't say how big they are but I'm assuming they're small breeds. Get crates for each that are relative to their sizes. Train them to go into the crate by making them comfortable and feeding them in the crates. When you leave them, don't leave food in the crate but do leave water. There are water dishes sold to be fitted to the sides of the crate so the dog won't step on it and spill it. Before you crate the dogs take them out to relieve themselves. If you can't get home during the day, pay someone to come in and walk them for a half hour a day. When you get home take them out. Bottom line is, you probably shouldn't have dogs if you're not there to take care of them. They do need to be trained and the crate will work but it's no existence for 8 to 10 hours a day - could you hold your water for 8 hours? Think about the right thing to do.

Crate training - simple as that. My dogs love their crates, it is their special place where they can go. If you are crate training, feed them in their crates. Most dogs will not go to the bathroom where they eat or sleep - would you? I'm a dog trainer of 17 years and have just about seen it all.
However, it sounds like you don't have time for these dogs right now. I would rehome them to someone who can take the time to spend with them. Doggy Day Care is another option while you ar at work. But you have to make the time to take them to training. One hour a week is not alot to ask if it means some quality time with your dogs and more knowledge for you as a dog owner. Owning a pet is a privilege, not a right. You only get out of it what you put into it. If you can't afford it, then it is not for you. You can purchase books on training anywhere. Do some research on your dog's breed, see what they need and don't need. These are things responsible pet owners do before they even consider getting a dog.

A lot of people swear by crate training, but I don't like that. I wouldn't keep either of my dogs locked in a small cage all day.
At the same time, they don't get to roam the entire house either. I have a 4 month puppy and she stays in the bathroom during the day. At first she went to the bathroom all over the place in there, then she started going just in the corner as far away from all of her stuff (food, bed, and toys) as she could get. Now, she just has an accident a couple of days a week.
The time spent house training her after work and on weekends seems to be working. I did this same thing with my other dog (who is 3 years old) and he NEVER uses the bathroom in the house or tears up anything.
Good luck. It just takes them a while to get it right. lol

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL6EG
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

Put the dogs in a crate when you are not home. If they are little dogs and you are gone 8 or more hours a day, is there any way you can come home half way through the day to let them out or arrange with a neighbor to do it? Don't allow water for an hour prior to putting them in the crate, and then take them outside to potty right before you leave. When you do leave, give them something to occupy them for the duration. You might want to get a box and keep it stocked with a variety of things - rawhide chews, soft toys, kong etc - and each day give them something different to play with/chew on. This will give them variety and reduce boredom. When you get home, you will need to take them for at least a 45 minute walk to allow them to burn off the energy they stored while in the crate. During this time, you can do some leash training like heel and sit and stay. If you don't have this kind of time to devote to their needs, then perhaps you need to find them another home. No criticism there, but if they aren't enough of a priority to make the time for training, another home might be what both you and they need.

OK,you have two (or more?) dogs. You work all day, don't seem to even grasp the basics of housebreaking, which is one of the EASIEST things to train, you leave them to run round the house all day, where they could be chewing power cables and electrocuting themselves, you are worried that they are 'destroying everything', and yet, you 'don't have the time to take for training classes'.
Erm, WHY did you take on pups? Why did you take on pups without giving thought to their safety during the day? Have you considered, or even heard, of crate training? (If you have done ANY research before taking these pups home, you couldn't FAIL to see it mentioned!). At the very least, crate them, and employ a dog sitter. Best of all, rehome them to a house who can actually fit other living beings into its's hectic schedule!
Dogs are for LIFE, and you are NOT providing these ones a SAFE one.

If you can't take a training class with at least one, you need to give the dogs away. Crating the dogs up will not solve the problem. It may actually make it worse because you'll end up with your dogs trying to expend all their energy during the smaller amount of time that they aren't in their crates compared to not using a crate at all. You must learn how to train your dogs by taking a class or hiring a trainer to come to your home (if that service is available in your city).

2 ways of going about this.......
crate training and or using a room (bathroom or small room) to restrict access to the whole house/apartment.
When crate training, you can lay down a wee wee pad in the back of the crate, and a blanket or pillow with a toy or 2 in front. This will keep their business in one spot, and also make the puppy feel protected. Also, a puppy will not poop or pee where they sleep.
I did it closing off a section of the room. I placed her food and water bowl on one side, and her wee wee pad on the other. Again, she's safe, can't get into any trouble, and it trained her to go do her business in the same spot. Bare in mind, puppies will have accidents, and if they do, don't hit or stick their nose in it! After the puppy goes, pick the puppy up and bring him/her to the wee pad. Patience is key, repetition is golden!

I am in agreement with another of your responders. Dogs are pack animals and need a pack and you do not have the time spend with the animal.
It is not fair to them. Find a good home with someone who has more time and get yourself a cat or another animal who can entertain themselves when you are not there.
Dogs need lots of time and lots of love.
How would you like to be locked up all day without a friend and then get yelled at when that friend comes home and finds you have pooped the floor????

If you need advice on getting dogs potty trained then I will give it.
Even though smaller dogs are harder to potty train than bigger dogs, they can still be trained. After every meal, bring your puppy to its "toilet" and wait until it has finished. Praise the dog when he finished.
If you see that your dog is going to make an accident, teach him the order "potty" or "toilet" or whatever you wish. Do not forget to take your dog to the same place (toilet) every time, In the morning, the first thing you do is you take your dog to its toilet. During night-time, dogs should be kept in crates. Dogs may start sniffing one place all wildly, meaning that they have to relieve themselves. Do not forget to praise your dog if he went to the toilet in the right place!
