have you had problems with other peoples dogs coming into your yard? Many dogs came up to our real fence barking, snarling and threatening, so I wondered if a dog would be safe with an electronic one.

When I adopted my 4 month old black lab puppy from the SPCA 3 months ago I signed a contract that states I agree not to sell the dog or give it away. I called them the other day to advise them I may need to return the dog at which point she advised me that dog relinquished by their owner will most likely be put down because they have to give the strays a chance to be adopted. She's only 4 months old and I don't want to take her back just to be killed. I also don't want to violate my contract. I can no longer care for her. I am 3 1/2 months pregnant and struggling with terrible morning sickness and my husband works nights and can offer no assistance with the dog. What should I do? Will they really kill a 4 month old puppy if I take her back?

I have currently been using Kibbles and Bits. However, the pet resort where I take my pups when I go out of town told me that Kibbles was very unhealthy for them and that I should switch to Eagle Brand. That stuff is 20 dollars a bag! What is a healthy (no by-products) brand I should use that is also affordable? By the way, I have two dogs-one is 10 months old and one 2 years old (I use the same kind for both).
Thanks!

My husband and I just got a 8 month old puppy Saturday.
The puppy seemed fine untill Sunday morning. Although his paperwork says he is a shepard / lab mix, he has black spot on his tongue like a chow.

On Sunday, my husband woke up and took him outside, but he didn't relive himself, instead he pooped and peed on my carpet. He did fine all day, even though we put him out several times throughout the day, he still peed on the blanket in his cage.

I need any and all good suggestions to break his peeing and pooping in the house (even in his cage.)

Thank you!

she is thirsty a lot, and not eating much at all, I'm worried about her age with these symtoms, she has cateracts, hip displasia, artritious, but dispite that is a pritty happy dog, I'm worried about losing her I have had her, her whole life, I would love to have something to go on when we go to the vet so I'm just not walking in there again saying "something is wrong with my dog, help" that usualy cost a lot with tests and ex-rays and stuff. any help will be apreciated.

I was at my sisters house saturday morning.
she has a lovely little border collie - a rescue dog - which is very sweet natured, except it hates people in hats or baseball caps. it was badly abused before being rescued and we assume it was by someone who wore a baseball cap, or suchlike.

I took the dog for a walk, and tied it up outside the post office while getting the newspaper.
In the meantime, a woman came along with a child in a baseball cap.
the woman tried to pet the dog, and it went for her. bit her arm, but didnt break the skin.

obviously she was very angry. She said the dog should be muzzled, etc, etc.

in my opinion, the dog is not to blame, when a strange person tries to pet it without knowiung the dog or asking permission.

what do you think?

It's a question possibly more for Australian here as I'd be interested to hear if there is any law in Australia but everybody's input is welcome. I've got a 7 year old rescue dog who is great and frankly not one of those dogs obsessed with food at all. She has a delicate stomach and the vet prescribed a special diet which we are following to the letter. Now the other morning I noticed there was a cooked bone (soooo bad) that obviously the next door neighbour had left for her. I politely went to her and explaining that this was not the correct food for her and would make her sick. I thought she had understood. Yesterday I went out to find that her kids were throwing chips at the dog and she was obviously eating them. Now I haven't see the neighbour and did not get a chance to confront her but I'm concerned that next time those idiots might feed her something really bad like chocolate. I know it sounds silly but is there any sort of law to prevent this from happening here in Australia.

I have a six months old puppy who I bathe two times a month but my parents complain that she smells bad a week after I bathed her. I think it's because she's very energetic--running around outside like crazy and such--and she has medium length hair. Can I just rinse her with water (as in not using shampoo) to get rid of the smell or would that still irritate her skin (as I heard that bathing a dog too often will do that to the skin). What can I do to get rid of the smell?

INHUMAN PEOPLE OUT THERE??? How could anyone ever "wait" to take their/or someone elses dog to the Vet when it's such a despirate need??? Dear Lord, I need to pray for them and anyone else that can look a puppy or a dog in the eyes and not see love, feelings, emotions, interest, intelligence, questions, and "lets play" or "please take me for a walk?" Ugh....so sorry to vent. I suppose this is my vent night, or I just read too many frustrating questions about innocent little furry friends that aren't cared for properly. Love is all it takes. I don't think I've vented this much, ever, on ANSWERS. So sorry. I just love dogs/puppies!!

While we were on holiday, the dog boarding place phoned us to tell us that my 14 year old Beagle was having seizures. It got worse and she was taken to the vet.

We came home, arrived late at night. In the morning phoned the vet who told us that they think she had brain cancer and was having seizures non-stop, the only way to stop them was to keep her asleep. They told us there was nothing they could do (I'm not sure how true that is?) and that the best thing was to get her euthanised.

When we came to say goodbye, she was of course sedated (asleep) otherwise she would be having seizures. The vet said that maybe she could hear us but I don't know if she was just humouring us?

As I was patting her and started talking to her, she started twitching more and breathing faster. I don't know if it was coincidence or not. Do you think she could hear me or is it unlikely she could hear while asleep like that? Please be honest. :(

I just regret not being there for her in her last days.

My puppy keeps going to the bathroom all over the house. We are crate training her but when we take her out to play in the house she runs off and does her business. We also just moved into a new place and she seems to be afraid to go outside and goes immediately when she enters the house. Any suggestions on what to do? I have heard use treats. Also how long should she be able to hold her bladder for at this age? She does great in the night but in the day she has to go ever 2 hours. thanks for any advice.

About a year ago, my dog had a reaction to an insect sting or bite (probably yellow-jacket or wasp). His head and ears swelled up and we panicked and ran him to the vet. It turned out not to be serious (fortunately) and the vet gave him a shot of antihistimine and a shot of a steroid. The swelling went down almost immediately and by the next day he was absolutely fine.

The vet told us to keep some Benadryl on hand and give it to him if something like that happened again, so I do have it. He also said that if the swelling subsides and the dog seems okay, there's no need to bring him in. My question is ... is it safe to give a single dose of Benadryl in that situation, before (or instead of) consulting a vet?
