have you had problems with other peoples dogs coming into your yard? Many dogs came up to our real fence barking, snarling and threatening, so I wondered if a dog would be safe with an electronic one.

I know what it is and how it works. I'm asking if those with one have had a problem with dogs coming in the yard. I know they CAN.

Yes, I have had this problem. We live in the country and our yard is really big. We didnt want to put a fence all over the yard so we bought an underground electric one. We had a problem when one neighbor dog came into the yard and began chasing our dog. Our dog was trapped. We heard the commotion and got her just in time. I think they are wonderful things. But closely monitor your dog. She might end up a prisioner in her own yard. We still have the fence but rarely use it. I think it would be great (expensive, but great) to have a regular fence and an underground electric. So you are protecting your dog from escaping in two ways. They wont dig out like in an normal yard. And you are also protecting your dog from bullies. Good Luck!

I have an electric fence but I don't leave my dog out there when I'm not out there too. So if there was a problem I would be there to deal with it.

We did have a pair of stray dogs that used to come around once a week on garbage day, and they would come through our yard. However, they never came when my dog was out, and I never heard about them fighting with other dogs in the area (and some dogs do stay out all day on an electric fence). But I know that other dogs coming into your yard is definitely a possibility.

If you are taking about the invisible fence, it keeps the dog in the yard, but it does not keep other dogs or animals from coming into the yard. This is the downside to getting the invisible fence system.

Kris L (and others) hit on a VERY good point regarding conditioning... IF You can, you make the dogs "Jewelry" (collar) part of the conditioning. Walking collar + Leash + Master = happy time walks !! Up here at the ranch, we have three mixed doggies ( a Pit, a Ridgeback, and a Mastiff) and they have been on an electric fence for three years. They have a 1/4 acre of normally-fenced area that is "THEIRS"... but we put the invisible-fence across our driveway, and the barn access road on the full acre that is their PLAY-zone. It took about a month of training, but now they don't even THINK of crossing it... even when the power is off !! Give your puppy a scratch behind the ears from all of us.

No, it doesn't keep other dogs out. But my dog is pretty protective of his area and large too, so I have never had a problem with other dogs in the yard.

The electronic fence only works with animals that wear the collar that work with it. So, other dogs could/would come into your yard.

The picture may help. On left you see the Collar and Transmitter. The yellow is a layout of the wire and a little brief on how it work.

The electronic fences are safe for dogs. It may have them be afraid to go to the end of your yard. But it dosnt harm them in any way.

No, it won't. There is no way to prevent the other dogs from entering your yard.
