It sounds like you answered your own question.... if you have a lot coming up next year maybe you should just enjoy the one dog you have.

I think its a good idea, it can keep your other dog some company while you guys are away. The thing is that puppies do require much more time than a grow dog, but with patience everything will work out. And if you really want a dog and you know you will have a lot coming next year it might be a better idea to get it now so you can train it before anything happens. Or you can just always wait until later in life ^^ It all depends on you and your plans.

If you really want another dog and feel you can handle it with all that is coming up, consider adopting a dog that is four or five years old. We made the mistake of adopting dogs at different times, but they all are basically the same age. Now we have three old dogs. By spacing them out you don't end up with a houseful of geriatric dogs.

It really depends on whether you are thinking about getting another dog or a puppy. Both take time to get used to being in a new home, potty training, and getting used to each other. You must have the time to do it. On the other hand, another dog can be a great new buddy for your other dog, especially if you are gone alot. Their compatibility will be really important to watch also.

As you mention, you guys are going to have a lot coming up in the next year. I think you guys should wait until you settle down. It's not fair for your new dog to go through what you guys have to deal with in next year.

Keep enjoying the one you have especially with your upcoming stuff. I know some people who have 2 dogs and they said it's alot of work. But sounds like you both are committed but I think you should leave for another year and see how it goes. Good luck.

you have to think about the extra responsibility
getting another dog is a committment. for years to come.
however, getting another dog will definitely keep your other one compay at the times in which you are away
they will also need time to become acquainted since you already have one dog
so u will have to watch them carefully the first few weeks to make sure they dont fight over food, treats, your affection, toys, etc.
however, remember.......it will be a huge responsibilty
