My boyfriend and I adopted a red bordie collie from a rescue place four months ago. I had a border collie before, so I knew what to expect as for level of exercise and stimulation. But what surprises me is his inability to be left alone in the house. He tears things up when we leave, and as a consequence, someone always has to be home with him. We love him to death and will not give him away, but sometimes, he drives us crazy.

I live in a 1 basement 2 bath 4 bedroom home, the inside is very big, we live a block from a very large dog park but we have a very small un-fensed yard (we are planning to put a bamboo fence in) , we can build a kennel though, We are free almost every weekend, but on the weekdays i have to go to school (not on summer) and both my parents and my sister are at work, my other sister is helping my aunt (other) with my grandma, my other aunt that lives with us is 80 some years old and is in no mood to deal with a dog.

I have all the time in the world to spend with my dog when i get home, and we have 4 cats he could hopefully become friends with, soo what do you say.... can you help me?

(if it helps i live in Oregon)

My house was burglarized recently. Having a dog for protection & companion would be helpful. I am single, 40's w/ 2 indoor cats. I have a fenced yard & 1400 sq.' house. I would enjoy taking a dog on walks, hikes, frisbee, etc. She has to get along w/ cats and visiting guests, but still be protective of property & me. I like calm dogs and want a dog that barks when there is a threat, not all the time. I prefer the appearance of big, long haired dogs, but is my house & yard big enough? I live in a hot climate, but may move to a cooler place in the next year or so, so breeds like St. Bernard's may be miserable here in the heat, is that right? I don't know much about dogs, so need suggestions. I like collies, shelties, aussies, golden retrivers. I don't like dogs that need special grooming like poodles. My cats are very happy & healthy here, and I would make sure the same is true for the dog that joins our family. Any suggestions?

Alright. So I have this little 5 year old carin terrier/Dauchsund Mix. I've never seen any signs of illness...but about...eh a year a go, ive noticed that she has these large lumps on her lower back, at first i thought it could be a tumor or something, but then I realized it was also on the other side so I figured it must be her kidneys, shes been drinking more water, but still has an appetite and doesnt seem to be in any pain. Do you think these are muscles? [[Because she runs ALOT]] or...is my little dog dying?

[My mom says scooter is PERFECTLY fine, and i shouldnt worry about anything, but....she never realy listens...im still trying to convince her that she NEEDS to be taken into the vet just to be sure, but....she wont :(]

=[

Please help me, i dont want to say goodbye :(

Its called "Adventures in Doggy Daycare"

I watched it a few times, but woman that owns the place made a really odd comment that soured me on the show. She said:
" If you aren't going to pamper your dog, why have them?"

I know "pampering" means something differant for everyone but you don't have to spend heaps of cash on your dog to love them.

What do you think?

We recently adopted a german shepard(6 months old), and last night, we put her in her kennel for the night(inside the house), and she happened to have her dog harness on.... we woke up this morning to check on her, and she was laying down with no harness on...but behold, 5 chewed off pieces of the harness laying around her!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyways, my question is, does anyone know where to get a chew-proof harness???, I'm worried that she'll escape when she's out in the back yard....I keep an eye on her, but it's impossible to watch her all the time....

I still haven't figured out what breed my dogs are, but like most of those who answered my first question said, they could be collie/shepherd or beagle/shepherd. They are still puppies, so there really isn't anyway to tell. We adopted them through a RESCUE ORG. and they can only say they are SHEPHERD CROSSES. We named them CAIN & ABEL. They are currently attending puppy class but had learned tricks OUTSIDE the puppy class. I devoted so much time and patience into teaching them useful commands and at 12 weeks both can SIT, STAY, DOWN, ROLL, CRAWL, SHAKE A PAW, TAKE A PICK (food guessing game). I am hoping to teach them a couple more because they seem eager and interested to learn and they both like to show off.
As you will see in their picture, both of them have BIG PAWS and are now 21lbs each at 12 weeks. How big do you think they will get as a full grown dog?

My dog broke his leg in two places. We took him to the vet, they put a cast on his leg. After two months they took the cast off. Its now been 4 months since the cast has been off and he still doesnt walk on his leg. Also the muscle mass in his leg is much less than his other leg? Will he ever walk on it again? I feel terrible..please help!

he has one of those electric water bowls and it holds quite a bit of free flowing water. He is able to finish that off in less then a day. He also pees a lot when we're out which is good but i wanna know if there is any downfall to him drinking that much water in a day or if i should be worried at all

i have a 1 year old pit bull who lives outside. i just keep him unleashed in my backyard all day and night, he has plenty food and water and VERY reliable shelter. i dont really take him out for walks because hes not very disciplined, so basically what im saying is that he gets minimal attention throughout the day, i mean i see him when i feed him buts thats it, well in other words i dont treat him like hes lassy, you know what i mean?

We were told that our puppies are shepherd crosses. They came from the same litter yet, they dont look alike except for their color. We dont know what they are cross with but as I search the internet, one of them looks like a beagle/shepherd while the other looks like colli/shepherd. Has anyone have a dog that look identical to our puppies? They are 21lbs each at 12 weeks.

I want to start feeding my dog more natural foods with vitamins (like omega fatty acids 3&6, vitamin C, Vitamin E) it seems that he has some sort of skin problems (he is a bichon frise) and so I read an article talking about Bichon Skin problems.
I figured that maybe he's not recieving enough nutrients from just kibbles and a bits of boiled chicken.

in the article, it talked about organs.. but didn't mention what kind(like turkey brains?, chicken heart?, beef, pork liver?. like what kinds??)
what kinds of natural meats (i'm going to cook them a bit.. maybe boil maybe a little bit of pan-cooking with virgin olive oil with garlic or something) should I give my Bichon?

oh yes, and if you can, is there dog shampoo thats gentle on the skin? I heard that oatmeal is good, but I dont see (at least I dont think so) any oatmeal shampoo for dogs in petsmart.

he randomly started shaking in diff parts of his bodyto the point he oculdnt walk. he had to be put on a ventilator and almost died. his platelets dropped and he had to be kept sudated or he would start shaking again. miraculously he was suddenly looking around one day, walking the next, and when we pickedhim up from the vet hosptial, he was back to his wonderful chocolate lab self! now he has no side affects, which was unheardof and the doctors call him the miracle dog. they never thought he would live, and they never discovered waht happend. out of curiousity, any ideas?
