I still haven't figured out what breed my dogs are, but like most of those who answered my first question said, they could be collie/shepherd or beagle/shepherd. They are still puppies, so there really isn't anyway to tell. We adopted them through a RESCUE ORG. and they can only say they are SHEPHERD CROSSES. We named them CAIN & ABEL. They are currently attending puppy class but had learned tricks OUTSIDE the puppy class. I devoted so much time and patience into teaching them useful commands and at 12 weeks both can SIT, STAY, DOWN, ROLL, CRAWL, SHAKE A PAW, TAKE A PICK (food guessing game). I am hoping to teach them a couple more because they seem eager and interested to learn and they both like to show off.
As you will see in their picture, both of them have BIG PAWS and are now 21lbs each at 12 weeks. How big do you think they will get as a full grown dog?

OMG...THEY ARE ADORABLE!!!! Thank you so very much for adopting them from a rescue organization!!!!!

You have done an incredible job at training them! The more time you spend with them and TALK to them, the smarter they will be. Also will be more in-tuned to you!

I definately see the markings of a Tri-colored Collie and also their facial bone structure! Their intelligence and markings leans me towards a German Shephard. But their ears lean me towards a larger hound breed or possibly a Border Collie. A Collie or Shepherd will have ears standing up. Though they do drop during teething. The one to the left looks A LOT like my boy that is a Shepherd/Collie Mix. Except mine holds his ears up. Their breed will become more promident as they grow out of puppyhood. Any way you look at it...a German Shepherd, Collie group, or Hound group are excellent companions and very smart.

As far as the "big paws a sign of becoming a large dog"... This is the norm. But mine had big front legs and feet and he's a little larger than a Sheltie. 21 lbs at 12 weeks is a good size and I do believe they will be large dogs.

Normal rule of thumb: When they are 6 months old... the length of their body will be the height of their shoulders.

They are both BEAUTIFUL!!! When it comes right down to it, the breed doesn't matter...it's the dog's personality. Don't worry so much about what breed they are right now....ENJOY your time with them, they grow up so fast!!!

GOD BLESS YOU for adopting Cain & Abel and providing them SUCH a LOVING home....THERE NEEDS TO BE MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOURSELF!!!

I also adopted a pup that was rescued. Just like yours, no one could say for sure what mix she was, only that she had collie in her somewhere down the line. Your pups look like they're going to be big dogs! I personally believe the bigger the paws, the bigger the dogs. My golden retriever is 8 weeks, and she's HUGE. Her paws are extremely big. My little mixed pup is 2 weeks younger, and has really tiny paws, and she's about 1/4 the size of my golden! I guess I'll know if the paw tale is true over the next year! :-) Good luck with your pups, they're precious!

Yay! From a rescue volunteer...thank you for rescuing instead of buying puppies! I can't even express the joy that I feel when I know another homeless animal gets a home! :) Even more kudos for going to a professional trainer...it is proven that dogs with formal obedience training aren't "dumped" as much as non-trained dogs because when the dogs are trained, they make it a much more pleasurable experience for all. :)

Now, as far as a the paws...at 12 weeks and already 21 lbs? I'd estimate a solid 50 pounds atleast. The paws are not always a factor...for example, by basset's feet are still HUGE and she's full grown.

Good luck with the training! :)

Sometimes you can tell by their paws but it really isn't a good indicator of how big they will be when they are adults. They are big pups and if there's beagle in them it's very little.

I think your looking at about 80 to 85 pound adult dogs!

They are very handsome pups, good luck with them and keep up on the training!

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU89A

A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

They are really cute. I have always heard you can tell by the paws but I don't know if that is true. My dog is 75 lbs now and I have a picture at 3 1/2 months.

Some breeds have big paws but are actually medium sized dogs, and some tall/large breeds have regular sized paws.
