Does the dog act friendly if so I wouldn't worry about it. We have a Pit and Boxer mix and she's friendly as a puppy.

It's really hard when you are afraid, but maybe it is time you try to overcome your fear. In your head, you know the dog is well trained, friendly with children and your boyfriend will not let him hurt you. Why not try a few things to take steps toward conquering your fear? Try sitting down and getting your bf to help you. Have him bring the dog in, but on a leash. Keep your hands to yourself and just let the dog approach you. Then slowly hold out your palm for the dog to sniff you. At any time, you know you are safe becase your bf has him on a leash, even if you are scared. The point is to try and make friends with the dog. Try this for a few seconds. The dog may eventually kiss your hand. You don't have to pet the dog, just try being around him first. As you become more comfortable, try having your bf hold the dog while you pet his back or head a little bit. I am sure you will start to see what he sees in his dog. Just give the dog a chance to show you he's not so bad.

I'm suprised and happy by all the good, non-biased answers to this inquiry! As a pit bull owner, I agree with the previous posts. Don't let the breed or stereotypes make you any more afraid of King than you would be of another larger dog. Pit bulls, despite myths to the contrary, are VERY people-friendly. My pit thinks he is a 60 lb lap dog! Be sure to express your concerns to your boyfriend so that he can help control King from being too forward and friendly. To someone who is scared, pit bulls can be a bit overwhelming, but hopefully you'll come around during the week. Because King is trained, he might actually be a good dog to practice interacting with (with the help of your boyfriend).
Best of luck!

No, it's a good thing for you to be asking questions. To avoid exciting the dog, move slowly around him. Dogs in general don't like fast, jerky movement so just move in a smooth, slow way around him. Pretend to yawn, and blink your eyes a lot. This tells the dog that you understand the 'calming' signals that he might send you. You might see him yawn back at you, and turn to the side instead of facing you straight on. This is great! It shows that he's listening to the signals you're sending.
Be sure to never stare at him in the eyeballs. This is rude behavior for dogs.
To continue to make friends with him, drop a kibble or 2 into his bowl every time you walk by. You don't need to act 'excited' about this - just drop the food and leave.
Ask your BF what kinds of games he's playing with this dog. Just observing them playing and seeing how the dog behaves when he plays and exercises will help you to get an idea of how the dog is. If anyone is training the dog, ask to help them - or if this makes you too nervous, just watch.
Good luck!

I agree, pitbulls aren't that big, but they are bigger than most dogs. Medium to Large size dogs don't know their own size, that's why they jump up on people alot when they are happy. They think they can do what small dogs do. Dogs can sense fear and anxiety in people, so when you are around King, try to calm down. Don't flinch or hesitate when he comes near. Show him that you are a good person, and he'll know it. Have your boyfriend bring him in the room and let the dog inspect you, sniff you so he knows you're ok. Try to pet him and feed him some treats, and he'll know that you're a good person. Just like others said, if a 2 year old can play with him, you can too.

Ask your boyfriend to help you. Sit down with him and the dog. Get to know King. You boyfriend should understand, just tell him that your unsure of the dog. If the dog is well trained then you have nothing to worry about. Don't let the dogs breed determine how you feel about the dog.

I would be more afraid of getting bit by a little Chihuahua then a Pit Bull. When a dog jumps on you he just wants attention. Reach down with both hands and grab his ears and scratch them as you push him down saying "down". Keep scratching his ears until he calms down. They love that. You already know that the dog is good if he is playing with a two year old child. Why should you be afraid of the greatest dog there is?

First off I agree with the other answer that Pit Bulls arent that big actually. Try spending more time with the dog before you have to be around it full time. You'll end up loving it. Remember, dogs can sense fear so show it your not afraid and you will be buddies in no time!

Pitbulls arent that big. Although known for their aggressive backgrounds. I'd hang out with the dog, feed him treats. If he's hyper, ask your bf to hang onto him while you become friends. Soon the dog will get used to you, say hi when you come over and most likely leave you alone after awhile.

pitbulls are known to be dangerous and aggressive , but they only act this way because they were raised to be that way or were mistreated. if u are scared just take your time getting to know the dog by letting him smell and petting him on the head. this will help u try to get over ur fear of king.
