4 times a year, dogs also tend to smell you know.
I used to bath my dogs twice a month, never had problems with the skin drying out and it also helped to keep the ticks and fleas away. They also got dipped once a month.
I now have yorkie and I bath her once a week. Yorkies dont have undercoats so it is necessary to bath them often and they also do spell.
Since your dog will end up having a long coat, your dog would need to be groomed often, and at least bath the dog once a month to prevent ticks and fleas, considering the thick coat your dog will have. If your not hundred percent, rather ask your local vet and they will advise you. Also ask if it wise to bath your dog often, just be sure. Good luck.

Depends on how dirty your dog gets, how well your dog cleans itself and if the dog goes outside and gets filthy or not.
You definitely need to keep it clean to keep infections and infestations down to a minimum, but don't do it too often. Dogs skin gets dry really fast. If you MUST bathe your dog more than once a month, try to find a good dog moisturizer. Many cities have them, but check the ingredients first. Some have additives that are bad for dogs and if your dog licks itself (which all dogs do), then your dog will ingest those additives.
If you can't get the moisturizer and you still MUST bathe your dog more often than once a month, then a good substitute (sometimes) is olive oil rubbed into the skin. A pekingnese will be difficult to do and the coat will look a bit messy for a few days until all of the oil is soaked up or licked off, but it's good when your dog has a bad dry skin problem.
Of course, ask a vet first and foremost. Not all breeds can tolerate the same things as other breeds, so a Pek. might be more sensitive than the dogs I've had. Check with the vet first or research a vet site online. Might help.

You should bathe a dog once a month IF NEEDED. You're dog (w/ the long hair) will need to be groomed, so when you take it to the groomer let them bathe it, condition it etc.
The dog NEEDS its natural oils for a healthy coat and skin and also to spread the topical flea and tick treatment. Over bathing can cause allergies, dry skin, irritations etc.

I was looking at all the variety of answers and figure your best bet is to ask your vet .... our vet has always held that you should not bathe a dog any more often than once every 6 weeks, and then only if needed.

how are you keeping its hair??
if long - then dont bathe it at all (unless sprayed by skunk) but you must brush it 2-3 times a day.. if they start to get mats the dog will need to be shaved by a groomer
if short - (eg if you intend it to be clipped regularly) it should have had its first visit to the dog groomer already - they will bathe it before clipping.
in an emergency you can use baby shampoo but really otherwise you should ONLY use dog shampoo -

Only when she absolutely NEEDS it.. Dogs don't need bathing like people do. They only need a bath if they are actually dirty, rolled in something and stink.. Otherwise they are fine.. If anything get a damp towel and wipe her down.. You'll just give her a dry coat and skin if you keep bathing her.

well, if the dog gets dirty, like really dirty then bathe it, but otherwise not that often, i suggest brushing its hair a lot, so that she doesn't get a lot of tangles, and if she just gets paws dirty, get those bath wipes you could purchase a pet store, that way you don't have to bathe the whole dog. and get a hair freshening spray. spray on the dog, and she/he will smell good for days

i have a Bichon Frise and i dont bathe her all the time. it just depends on where you live and how dirty he/she gets. some dogs live in environments where they need to be bathed every week. some don't need to be bathed till 3 or 4 months have gone by.
if you want to ask me more about it...feel free to message me anytime!
hope i helped :)

Short haired dogs about every 3-4 months. Long haired dogs maybe monthly (unless they smell before that, lol)
