Dogs have an extraordinary keen sense of smell. Your dog actually smells the baby inside her stomach and the dog licking it is a show of love and concern. The dog actually may hear a heartbeat that a human cannot hear. Don't worry about it at all. You have a wonderful loving dog and she will welcome your niece or nephew with lots of love.

This same thing happend with my sister and her golden retriever, he kept licking her belly and was constantly at her side. When the baby was born he refused to leave the baby alone for any amount of time, they litterally had to kick him outdoors to go potty and then he would bark and want back in. He slept in the baby's room and to this day does not leave the childs side. The baby girl is now 4 yrs old. I hate to see what happens when she goes to school next yr heheh. He is a good dog and a very protective dog :)
Good luck

Sometimes a yeast infection grows in begins to grow in the umbilicus. It has a smelly, wet consistency and will eventually get sore if not treated. That is probably what your dog is licking. They also groom other dog's ears a lot when yeast is growing in them.

I think that the dog understands that there is something very important to your sister there and that is why he or she keeps licking it . good luck on the baby and the dog.

Dogs are very sensitive to pregnancy...he is acknowledging the baby and letting her know that he is aware and ready to protect her and the baby.

That's cute. I'm pretty sure dogs are sensitive to pregnancy, so yeah, it could be concern.

Yeah, not so much for the dog though. Sounds like you people are way too inbred if you're letting the dog do this.
