He has a cronic skin infection. I was told it could be allergies. So I changed his food, got flea treatment, shampoos, lotions, animal dermatology visits, holistic treatments. He now is on an anti-fungal, steriod and antibiotic meds. He does good for a while ...then he flares up again. Not to mention he kinda smells (like corn chips), and his skin gets really dark and he soon starts to lose his hair. Oh yeah ...AND his skin oozes......and no one can tell me what's going on with my baby. Not even his vet. They just keep giving me meds to give him. But they only work for about 2-3 months then we are back at the same thing all over again. And I know that over a period of time the steriod is going to do damage. So can someone please give me some advice. Maybe you've gone through something similar. Any home remedies? I'll try anything to give Sammy some relief. Only heart felt answers please. Thank you.

My 2 yr old Chihuahua Hollyday is a very small dog, according to the vet, 1.5 lbs would be about right for her tiny frame.

She recently got checked for heart worms, several blood tests and an x-ray. Her blood returned an early detected blood parasite (from a tick in her ear from my former room mates dog, even though she gets a flee drop every month). The parasite tested level 1.5 out of 6 about 3 weeks ago. She's been on antibiotics since. X-ray shows a slightly enlarged heart, but the doc said not to worry about that? She did have a light seizure once, a few months ago.

Her appetite and behaviour has been very normal and consistent (energetic, cuddly and her temperament is not affected whatsoever). She's always been healthy, even her respiratory system is strong.

However, she started losing a lot of weight 2 weeks before antibiotics and was a measly 1lbs. Since then she's gone down to 0.8lbs!

The vet doesn't know what else to test for and if she loses more weight she'll die :_(

I have a 5 month old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. He is registered and I would like to breed him someday so do not want to get him fixed. How do I stop the dog from humping things and people other than neutering him?

I have heard that neutering too early effects the development of some characteristics such as a fuller masculine looking face.

I have heard this is not a recommended breeding cross unless each pedigree had 4 generations of correct colors? (something like that) Anyways, I have seen a litter that was bred this way and had eleven pups...all black and 2 harliquens. There was no miscolorings and all pups are healthy and beautiful.

My dog will be 6 months old on August 11th... he has already started to hump things, and I don't know when I'm supposed to get him neutered... I've heard people say that if you get them neutered too early then they will have behavioral problems (or maybe that's if it's too late) and if you get them neutered too late they will have problems also... Any advice please?? I would greatly appreciate it!! :)

For about 5 years, I have had two dogs living in my backyard. One was considerably older, and has recently passed away. Needless to say, she wasn't very active in her later years, living to be 18. Now that she's gone, I'm wondering if my remaining dog, who is 6, will be OK as the only dog. Has anyone had experience with this?

I just adopted a Mini Dachshund from a shelter. the shelter named her sadie. I dont really like that name very much. I know he hasnt had it for long but i want to keep it AROUND the same sounding so she doesnt get confused. I know dogs go by the last sylabols is that correct? So something like Katy, Amy, ect with the E sounding at the end. She is quite tiny and cute as a button.

i have a two year old cockapoo and he attacks me when i punish him. he is a dominant male that is fixed. he has a potty training problem, ive worked with him since he was eight weeks old and he is still not housebroken. he is crate trained. i correct him by either smacking him on the butt or yelling at him(verbal commands, bad dog ect.) i havent let him get away with much without a punishment. he attacks any dog in sight and doesnt like little children. his attacking has gotten soo bad that i took him back to the breeder for advice. she told me when he attacks me i should grab him by the scruff and put him on his back until he calms down. ive tried this but after he calms down and i let go he attacks me again. he can be a nice dog sometimes. ive taken him to the vet and there are no health causes. please help!!!

I was just outside playing with my puppy, all of a sudden he went to use the restroom. I was monitoring closely since I am trying to house train him and at the end of his pee, it turned red. I am assuming blood. It was not alot, but noticeable. He is eating well, drinking water, we went for a run today, and were playing outside. He is alert and seems fine besides that. First, can anyone confirm if it was blood? Second, I have an appointment with a vet tomorrow, does it seem serious enough to go get it looked at today? Thanks.

I heard about the BARF (bones and raw food) diet a while back, and initially thought it was a good idea - what could be better than feeding simple things that a wolf would find in the wild?

BUT I now have doubts, and I think this is actually quite a dangerous thing to believe in (although I'd be happy if someone could explain it to me differently, as I like the idea of this diet). I think it's perfect for cats, first of all, because cats are pure carnivores. They don't need any of the rubbish they put in cat food. But for dogs...

Dogs are omnivores like us. They need carbohydrate. Feed a human on nothing but meat and we'll live for, what, 20 years if that (and be very unhealthy). There's a reason why dog food is not the same as cat food. Feed a dog on cat food and it will become ill because there isn't enough carbohydrate.

I suggest that maybe modifications need to be made. I intend to feed my future dog on the BARF diet, but supplemented with carbohydrate.

I have a boston terrier and a papillon and I think this is how they show affection. The boston is almost 2 and the papillon is 6mths old. It's really annoying because they don't stop. When you go to pet them they lick you constantly. They won't just chill out.
