I have a boston terrier and a papillon and I think this is how they show affection. The boston is almost 2 and the papillon is 6mths old. It's really annoying because they don't stop. When you go to pet them they lick you constantly. They won't just chill out.

NEVER let them lick YOU! Push them away when the lick you. It is just affection but if you dont like it, it can NEVER happen again. That goes for everyone they meet. Ive got a super lovable PitBull who loves to lick faces but knows hes not allowed anymore(wifey let him as a pup so it wasnt easy to break). They will lick hands instead of faces and can be tought that no licking is ok. They have to show their feelings somehow but you just have to teach them not to lick by constantly not letting them lick. Consistency is the key to all dog training, one "ok just this time" destroys months to years of NOs.

The best way I've found to teach a dog not to do something is to actually teach it TO do it first. We all teach puppies the no command but not the actions that go on the other end of it. We holler "no! Don't chew my shoes (or electrical cord, or chair, or rug, or you fill in the blank)!". But we seldom convey more than anger or displeasure. This is a situation you take cake advantage of though without the dog being destructive. This is how I've taught my dogs not to bark, and along for the ride I got a Speak and a Whisper out of it. ; )

LOL! I have one dog that hugs my guests. He puts his head against the leg and presses hard. They love it. The foster that I have now and I have seen this with other fosters when you pet her she is busy petting you back with her tounge.
The only answer I have is to teach them the command "go lay down" and of course have one place designated for them to lye.
OR you can just have everyone wear pepper!

that means your dogs are very affectionate about you, but to keep there tounges off of you, go give it a toy and play catch or throw it somewhere, if he dosent follow it then shake it in its face! good luck!

Well, if they keep doing that, then it's part of their nature. It'll probably be hard to train them not to.
