You can change the blanket now. The new blanket will be alright as long as there are no other dog or cat smells on it.

I never use blankets after I list pups from being caught in the blankets after the mom had rearranged them to her liking. I use new papers and change as needed. I have also found that now I can pretty much have my pups paper trained by 5 weeks old and the new owners don't have as much trouble with them going on the carpet. It seems that the pups figure a blanket and carpet are the same and if raised on a blanket they think its OK to go potty on it as mom will try her best to keep them clean for the first 4-5 weeks.
but you can change the blanket any time.
i use to change the blanket and now the papers during birth, after birth and as long as the female has discharge several times a day.

You need to replace the blanket often. You should put down shredded news paper because young pups are not potty trained and you need something to soak up the fecal matter. You also want to keep the area cleaned, the young puppies immune systems are not developed so you don't want to take a risk of them getting sick.Think, blood, birthing fluid, urine etc are all in those towels.

EWWWWW you should have changed the blankets as soon as you were sure she was done.. Change them several times a day.. You have to keep everything clean.. She doesn't care about the blanket smell, puppies don't care either.. They want clean blankets they don't want wet stinky blankets.

I would have replaced that blanket long ago. It is probably wet and full of blood and all that yucky stuff. Not sanitary. Your dog will be happier and so will the pups with a new blanket and quite often it needs to be changed.

The bedding should all be taken away and washed after whelping is complete. Give the mom and pups some nice clean bedding to lay on. If there is a large litter the bedding should be changed at least a couple of times. Mom will not mind at all.

No, it won't. You need to keep the area clean, so blankets need to be changed at least twice daily. Use unscented detergent to wash, and be sure to rinse well.
