You probably won't find a yorkie at the animal shelter but it could be worth a call. The easiest way would be to buy one at the kennel or try some yorkie rescues. (Several popped up for me on Google) There is an adoption fee that ranges from each yorkie depending on the medical condition, but this way you can adopt a yorkie that is truly in need of a good home.

Contact established and reliable Yorkie breeders in your area! You can contact the nearest AKC representative to assist you in this.
Many times, an established breeder will "retire" a former show or brood animal to a loving home - after spaying/neutering. Look around, and keep an open mind.

I would check the ads in the papers, if you aren't already. I adopted my 'westie' from a woman who had them on a street corner in the influential part of town. She had several different breeds, with the papers and everything. I hope you're ready for that little rascal, though! lol

Most sweet shops sell them. I love the things myself. Just bite in to one and chew for all you can.
