No. Dogs should never be given cooked chicken bones. As other people have said, the cooked bones will splinter and cause problems. My vet told me it was ok to give raw chicken wings to dogs. The uncooked bones will bend but not splinter. Dogs can also have raw vegetables and any raw meat. Dried dog food is full of preservatives and tinned dog meat is 85 per cent water. These preservatives and additives in prepared dog food can eventually lead to illnesses including cancer. It turned out my dog had an intolerance to these chemicals and was scratching her skin raw. Now she only had natural food and is a healthy happy dog.

For years, I fed my dog cooked chicken bones before I learned better. My dog was not harmed because I was lucky, not because what I was doing was safe. I would NEVER give a dog anything but raw bones now. Knowingly feeding a dog cooked bones because no one you ask has any PERSONAL knowledge of harm is up to you. Personally, my dog means too much to me to take the chance now that I know of the dangers.

Chicken bones can splinter and stick into the dogs digestive system. Very dangerous.

The part of the chicken bones that a dog can eat is boiled chicken necks.

True. Dogs should be fed only a balanced diet, which is provided in dog foods. Even though dogs are animals, they are domesticated animals. Thousands of years of domestication has created in these animals a particular system that, through scientific research, has proven should be stabilized through the digestion of a balanced diet of specific vitamins and minerals, all inside of the food that is made and regulated for these animals. It is also proven that dogs who eat table food of any kind are less healthy than dogs who do not eat what their owners eat, as a general rule.

Chicken bones in particular can be dangerous for animals because chickens are birds. Birds are hollow-boned creatures, which means that their bones easily crack, break and splinter when eaten. These splinters can easily get lodged in the throat or other areas of the digestive system, causing choking, or even esophageal abrasions and tears. When the system becomes injured by these holes in the lining of the esophagus and stomach, it can cause internal bleeding, infection, and death. Also, in the case that the bones are not properly digested, it can wound the intestines and cause tears and bleeding in the anus.

Table scraps, especially chicken bones, are not safe for any animals, and should be properly disposed of to maintain a long and healthy life for any domestic breed.

My dogs have eaten BOILED not roasted chicken bones for 8 years with no ill effects. They don't get the tiny wing bones, or ribs, or that thin sharp bone in the leg, but any thick smooth ended bones they do get. Cooked bones are softer anyway. I tried them on fresh raw chicken and they got the squits.

I'm with you -- it's dangerous to give a dog the chicken with the bones. If you're going to give the dog chicken, take it off of the bones first for the reasons you have given.

Just to agree with everyone else really, it is a very bad idea to give a dogs chicken bones, they do indeed splinter and can easily choke even a large dog!

Chicken cooked is fine but NO BONES any vet will tell you that.
Chicken bones are too brittle and could choke the dog or puncture its insides! Advise your neighbour the stupid twit!

It is indeed dangerous to give them bones because of what you mentioned. This doesn't mean that it will happen every time. Your neighbour's dog most likely is fine now, and he has eaten bones before with no problem too, and he enjooyed them. But it is wrong to give them to him, because of the possibility that one time his intestine will have a problem from a sharp bone and that is serious daanger. I hope it doesn't happen, but you'd better tell your neighbours not to give him bones, at least chicken.
