The reason your pom is doing this is because it seems he has leeway in the home, meaning his allowed to do what he wants when he wants and he gets what he wants. Your dog is showing you that he is the boss and you have no control over him.
It must stop by you showing him his the dog and your the owner. It doesn't mean that you must shout at him or hit him, oh no totally out of the question. You need to show him, no more sleeping in my bed (if he does), get him his own little bed and he needs to be out of your room. Secondly, show him affection but he must also be consistant with discipline. Just follow through with him.
Otherwise, browse the web or call your vet and ask if they would suggest anything and who can assist you then.

you need to get her over the overexcitable phase she's into, thankfully it's confined to when people come to the door. One situation to switch her views on, and correct associated behavior with is WAY easier than if she was a widdler all the time. Try looking into Good Dog U, a really good show about training tips. They may have a website, or try looking them up under Animal Planet on the web, as that is the channel on which they air. They dealt with just this issue, successfully, and the owner is the trainer for the between show periods, so it's DIY help, too.

i had the exact same problem with my pup. tell them not to look at her or say her name or make a big deal about her. this will give the pup time to sniff them and check them out with out getting too excited. i promise this works. then, after she's checked them out and calms she should be fine for the rest of the visit. you may have to do it a few times before she starts to recognize people, and pretty soon the behavior will stop altogether. also, try not to pick her up:that just worsens the situatiuon, then people are right in her face. leave her down, and either keep her away from the door or just scoot her back with your foot. AND it may be hard to say no to people but you must. people have no right to pick up your dog and no reason. if they want to see her tell them they'll have to bend down, and if they're not willing, too bad!

Put the dog on the leash rather than hold her & when people come in, ask them to wait to talk to her. She's still growing & in time, she'll get better control. And because she's a small dog, you probably shouldn't let alot of people pick her up or hold her. She may not want a stranger to hold her & when she tries to wiggle loose, they might drop her & she can get hurt. You should pick her up to let others pet her. Give her a little more time & try to keep excitement to a minimum.
